That's okay. I recognized that pretty quickly. Organizations need long
term visions as well as short term. Hopefully the short term solution
easily transitions into the long term stable solution. Otherwise, we may be
seeing this same sort of thread next year, discussing the best way to
determine membership, voting status, etc.

Ah. I'm glad to hear a quasi-technical explanation that Passport is merely
a verification method (which occasionally stores credit cards, something
privacy advocates don't like). Clears up some of my confusion and
reservations from my prior post. Something like Passport (just no credit
cards) is perfectly acceptable; I'd actually enjoy this, since I frequently
forget my Bricklink password (assuming Bricklink comes aboard). We could
call the service FOLUN (Fan of Lego User Name), or FOLOS (Fan of Lego Online
Subscription/Service). Or even better: FUN (FOL User Name). Or ELF (Every
Lego Fansite). I could do this for the rest of the afternoon. Alas, I need
to earn a paycheck.
Anywho, it certainly looks like the online community could go this way. I
remember recently that Peeron is allowing people to use their LUGNET set
lists to find their current parts inventory. I have yet to try it (my set
list has changed twice this past month), but this kind of cooperation is
what's needed to take this idea and make it work.
I like the idea, Jake. All from a small footnote about the confederation of
states before the US.
