while working on a project of mine to build a small replica of a 4 stroke engine out of legos I discovered I didn't know how to make a 4 to 1 ratio for the timing of the valves. The ratchet arm doesn't stop the wheel from turning properly. If you play about with it it should do. Try changing the end bit --- I think I used a 3-axle to stick down onto the gear wheel, so you should have an inverted L shape where they just have (...) One other interesting thing, I haven't checked it out for sure yet, but the baseplate has an extra rim which looks like it will make it the same thinkness as a plate instead of slightly thinner. This is also the case for the baseplate in Belville (...) (25 years ago, 12-Jan-00, to lugnet.scala)
