4 to 1 ratio?

while working on a project of mine to build a small replica of a 4 stroke
engine out of legos I discovered I didn't know how to make a 4 to 1 ratio for
the timing of the valves.  I could get close using pulleys, but I figure there
must be a way and Im sure someone who reads this will know the answer and can
tell me how.  Please help.

(...) I've been thinking on this a while ago and I think the easiest way is to use 2 pair of an 8-tooth and a 16-tooth gear. Something like this | | | ## # | # ## | | | where ## is a 16-tooth gear and # an 8-tooth gear and | are axles. This means (...) (25 years ago, 12-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)
