Before the movie came out, people were asking all kinds of things about what
the Jedi would be doing. Would there be a Lightsaber duel? Would there be
force powers? Etc, etc.
Lucas basically answered their questions by saying that what we saw in Episodes
IV-VI were old men past their prime and out of pratice, and a boy who was, at
best, half trained.
Yes, the Jedi were bad-a**es in their time. Heck, they're led by Shaft! ;D
Seriously, though, the whole point of the Jedi is that they are warrior-mystics
capable of... well, of having super-powers. Frankly, I was a little
disappointed in how wussy Qui-Gonn and Obi-Wan still came across at points. I
can't wait to see some things I've heard about coming in the next Episode.

| Just to throw my two cents into the fray... While I agree the running away was a lousy special effect, I think I understand where GL was coming from with the super power effects. As I've gleaned from the various bits of written fiction, there were (...) (24 years ago, 6-Nov-00, to lugnet.starwars)
