(...) A word of caution - the worm gears are certainly great for large gear reductions in small spaces, and it is usually easy to brace them well, but they have one disadvantage over a traditional gear train - they create more friction, and are (...) (25 years ago, 22-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Anyone know where I can get RIS 1.0 to 1.5 Upgrade in the UK?

I've noticed that there are some parts in RIS 1.5 that don't exist in RIS 1.0, and that the programming software is supposed to be better (nesting of commands and such), but the Mindstorms site indicates that the upgrade (set #3803) is only (...) (25 years ago, 22-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Strong gear assemble?

Thanks for the help! After sending out the email, I thought of a way to do it (using a worm and a 40t gear ;), so now it lifts its self.   Re: Strong gear assemble?

I second the turntable suggestion. Triple black pin two beams to the molded-in mounting lugs and you can make a perfect space to worm-gear the outer ring. As an added bonus you get tons of mounting surface to put the rest of your big- rig (...) (25 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Advice on Rotation sensors and steering please.

Sorry. No I meant with correcting. My motors were matched pretty well, but without correction there was a large 2-3 foot error. Also the 500->15ft statement was an approximation of the actual numbers, I did this 3 months ago. Andy (25 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Strong gear assemble?

If you are having trouble with the weight of the object ( robot) that you are lifting, you could possibly work a worm gear into the gear box. The worm gear changes the direction of motion, which prevents the weight of the object from working (...) (25 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)
