I dont want to have to upgrade to Brick ME, knowing MS they will just come
out with another upgrade soon after, and does that mean I have to upgrade
again? Anyway my current legos seem to work just fine with Linux.

You don't have to do that. Microsoft is preparing to buy TLG, and rumor has
it they will soon market Windows 2000-compatible blocks called Brick ME.
Pricing is TBA.
