I have a different interpretation...
In my perception, wench can be a derogatory term in many
contexts....BUT....I view wench as a caste or occupation as in medieval
society...a mere statement of fact or station in a hierarchy...
By extension, if wench is derogatory, so is Pirate or peasant...
I think there are issues of political correctness afoot here....I have
rarely been "politically correct"
A wench by any other name ....may still be a wench...
Given the TLG/TLC portrayal of Pirate and Castle females in a "Saint Pauli
girl" style/wardrobe it is a logical and justifiable conclusion that they
may very well be wenches....they certainly are not tradtional nuns or maidens...
I don't see "buccaneer babe" or "Robin Hood's concubine" as viable or
marketable alternatives...
to me the pirate and forest women are wenches...
I guess I agree w/ Scott Sanburn on the subject.
To me it's all ABS...
