I don't know, I've seen people insert "babe" for "wench" with the Pirate case,
and come to think of it, the Forest case as well. It's derogatory in any case,
but since I hear women use it about each other all the time I consider it "fair
game" although still far from polite.
Hey, isn't there a restaurant just south of Ann Arbor called "Medieval Times" or
something like that which actually has waitresses who must be addressed as
"wench" before they'll come serve you? I vaguely remember reading about that
about five years ago--it sounded like it had real atmosphere, but I have a
feeling the veneer was mighty thin if you began to presume too much wenchness.

I have only one emendation to make to Scott's appraisal, the substitution of
"carpetbagging" for "Marxist." She's not really a Marxist, IMHO.

| (...) That's the context of the word I thought it was for. I know I wouldn't say to any of my girl friends, "Come here, wench." My lil ole dictionary thesaurus calls wench "informal term for a young woman" and considering the timeline of the above (...) (25 years ago, 22-Mar-00, to lugnet.general)
