Actually, lowering the voltage would lower the current draw too with a constant load. Of course a motor is anything but a linear load, and it does tend to draw more current at slower rpm. I'm sure there are a lot of nuances that went into this decision. The Danish company was only into its' 8th year of exporting it's product when it entered the US market. FWIW: I have two LEGO train transformers that are labeled for an output of 12 VAC and two that are labeled for an output of 11 VAC. Both rate the power output at 7 VA. Personally I have my LEGO up on a table and that saves the arches of my feet. Another solution would be to spread out a spare bed sheet and build on that then when you are done just fold up the corners and you have instantly put all your LEGO into (...) This means, that now when we have 230V in Europe (European Union standard as it is between 220 and 240V and whitin the limits), that it will be app 5% more ~almost 14V.
