Welcome Alan! Sounds like you have a great *starter* set-up;-) So you say you are not on the dark side yet, but I say give it a try. Start out with a box car. This is a good general reference link. It's the NMRA or National Model Railroad Association. Larry, the turntable will add a little bit of flex. Considering that John's trains are really long, the angle is substantially less than one would get with 6 wide trains. Also, I would be willing to bet that John is limited to slopes of 1 (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

I dunno, the pantographs are pretty self evident: 2 2.5 tiles with fingers 2 3L rods with 2/3 fingers 2 1.5L rods with 3 fingers/stud 2 1x1 tiles with clip 1 chrome rod (you could also probably use the grey rod from the STAPs) (...) -- | Tom Stangl, (...) Wow, thats a great sight, I don't know how I missed it in the past. I like the track cleaner, but I think I'd add an extra set of cleaners to get the inside of the track rail a little better, since that is were the current comes from. jt Nick Goetz (...) Hi I did see one, but that's for the 9V track, I think Cliff was on about the 12 Volts I use Solvent Cleaner and a cotton buds and rub very hard, The black stuff has some thing to do with the air oxidising on the electric contacts' on the bottom of (...) I recall that someone around here made a car that cleaned the rail as it went. If I remember correctly they mounted a piece of foam rubber to the last car of the train. It would clean the track on every pass. Does anyone else recall it or have the (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

I happened across this in the back of a small toyshop's Lego section some years ago, and just found it again in the closet. #7851 -- the 4.5v train set curved rails. Cutting out carefully is a drag! And in our case an oval is a hard shape to cut nicely. I thought about a die-cut cutter. My wife has a ton of them for her "creative memories" stuff. I thought that the 1x1 w/side stud was a recessed side stud. Wouldn't that leave a gap? I believe that we are going to be having these windows only get one stud on each side connecting this way. That would apply to shades of gray as well. I would suspect that printing pink or yellow or light blue on a sticker that goes over a black piece will likely have some color bleed through, also. Some bad news... As you all may know PNLTC has recently adopted a new logo ((URL) found that any logo with "white" in it has trouble! Most (99%) printers don't print white. So if you are going to print this on to clear stickers... The white comes (...) For a right angle element, just use the 1x1 technic beam with a 1.2l technic pin with stud end. That one works fine and there are no mismatched lengths to worry about and no weird shapes on the back of it to worry about either. 1x1 brick with side (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

Frank, Kathryn is powered by an old 12v motor pulling power from a dummy 9v mechanism in the tender. The old 12v motors generally run quieter, smoother, slower, and just look better for steam loks than the 9v ones. The new 9v motors, however, are (...) All, Larry mentioned a train in the GMLTC pictures that is not a standard Lego color. It is my beloved locomotive "Kathryn" which pulls the royal train on my layout. Not really new ideas at all. All copied from other work. Especially the turning of the thinwall windows by 90 degrees! I just got an idea to remove any spacing gaps in at the right angle endpoint connections. Maybe this is old news? I used the 1x3x2 (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

Larry, Thanks for the build-up . . . but one correction: I abhor painting bricks and would never attempt such a transgression. However, stickers and decals are acceptable because they extend the creative possibilites without permanently damaging the (...) Those of you that don't know... Brian is a "stealth" member of GMLTC, he doesn't live in the Twins any more but still comes out for shows. While he is from the "paint and stickers are OK" school of modeling, which I don't normally hold truck with, (...) I have just finished the BayLTC logo to the best of my ability. I have made it in both a windows metafile, which will retain its sharpness regardless of the size it is printed, which is excellent for banners, and a gif for easy viewing. It can be (...) Ben, Hi. A couple years ago I installed caternary over most of my layout. The support masts are all Lego elements but the wire is not. I use HO scale Maerklin pantographs to pick-up power on the engines (see "(URL) A wire runs down into the motor (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)
