Another way to handle the problem would be to add a column of 1x1 bricks on
top of or below the windows. Now with 3 studs, you can use two Technic beams
separated by 2 plates. The "top" of the window stack then needs 2 1x1 plates
and a 1x1 tile. The stack might be sturdier if you make the whole car side
rotated.
It would be real nice if TLC would make a 1x1 brick with side stud which
isn't recessed.
