Hi James:
I saw your picture.
It's a great idea to solve my train's week point.
For me,to get the special parts which used in James'
picture is a REAL PROBLEM !

The special parts are the 2x4 studs on top bricks with either studs on two
vertical sides or hollows on two vertical sides.

I think I got some from the green/black aquanauts sets called Aquaraiders(?).
Maybe some came in Freestyle buckets?

Anyone now of a current source for these side-stud/hollow bricks?

Maybe 1x2 brick hinges could work, or some other right angle element?  Trick is
to embed the right angle element inside the body of the train car, rather than
put the right angle element on the outside row of studs.  You want to "hide"
the right angle element inside the body of the train car.

Maybe you can just move your current right angle element from the outside wall
of the train car to the inside?  Just use you right angle element in the same
way as I used the 2x4 side-stud brick?

I'm sure there are lots (better) ways to do this.

It's a great window method, in my opinion.  One that would look very good on
many different styles of passenger trains.

You've given me the inspiration to finally begin working on a new passenger
train set.  Any bets on whether it's European or US?  ;-)

I just got an idea to remove any spacing gaps in at the right angle endpoint
connections.  Maybe this is old news?

I used the 1x3x2 trans light blue thinwall windows from the new passenger • train
set.

Also did a first attempt at 1x3x2 trans light blue narrow (European old
fashion) window treatment on a green passenger car.

I this isn't much, plus, it's a copy of the great Japanese High speed train
modeler Masayuki Ogura's

http://www2.justnet.ne.jp/~mogura/nyantalegotrain.htm

I think I've seen this side window treatment on a someone's locomotive, as
well.  I think whoever employed this idea used a 1x3x2 black train-frame • window
on its side for the side window on the locomotive cab.  Who's the modeller.
Sorry, I can't remember.

James Mathis

For a right angle element, just use the 1x1 technic beam with a 1.2l technic pin with stud end. That one works fine and there are no mismatched lengths to worry about and no weird shapes on the back of it to worry about either. 1x1 brick with side (...) (24 years ago, 27-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)
