COLTC will have a 30 x 30 foot layout at the Dennison, Ohio Train Festival from July 30 - August 1, 2004. We are still working out the details of the layout, but we have been asked by the TranFest event co-ordinator to bring along Paul Janssen's 4+ (...) Me again. I was just catching up on the cool container threads that were going on awhile ago. Jason, Jake etc came up with some really great ideas. But this brings up a new issue. (...) Ouch. Please take into account that any train-like construction over a certain (very short) length needs to be put on svivel (SP?) bases in order to be kept on track. The bogie centres are still 1ft too far apart at 26ft (26L), but I have 1.5L of axle in the middle, giving 2 lots of 0.5L support from liftarms and 0.5L in the middle for (...) Mark's is an example of a layout where there are more bricks in the trains than the layout! But I agree with Larry that just because you put more bricks into your scenery it doesn't mean that's where the effort lies. My smallest engine, an 0-4-0 OF (...) (...) Perhaps. But to me it's not about absolute number of pieces, it's about build time per model. A good train model can take a lot of time. (Time does NOT equal pieces). You know, I just realized something. LEGO train club builders don't spend a lot of time or pieces on actual trains. They instead spend their time and effort on the scenery around the trains. Has anyone modified a universal joint? Was your modified part successful? I find that the uni joints are too long for certain train applications. A few days ago I saw Daniel Silva's sliding door in this group and thought 'boxcar'. I had previously built a boxcar with doors that slid on plates with a door rails but that turned the MOC into a 10-wide. Daniel's design allowed me to run it as an (...) Hi All. I finally attended and participated in a train show. I was priveledged enough to be a part of the NCLTC show in Raleigh this weekend. It was awesome. So I tweaked my motorized switching mechanism for the train wyes a bit. Got it down to 5 bricks/2 plates high, and mostly all just basic bricks, plates and a few technic pieces... Model Railroader Cyclopedia Volume 1 - Steam Locomotives ($49.95) and Model Railroader Cyclopedia Volume 2 - Diesel Locomotives ($37.95). These books contain scale drawings of their (...) (URL) a newer version of my steam loco--I think it's a little more in line with other steam locomotives--it's now a 4-4-0, instead of a 4-4-4 (which, I'm told, never existed...) Aha! I had an epiphany. When I posted this hack: (URL) question was raised if it could be done so the door opens up. The height is identical to the original. 3 bricks high.
