After installing 0.2.5, you should run 'make realclean' to get rid of some files that may cause build problems. Specifically, there is .depend file in the boot directory. Ross, Thanks for the input. Makefile.common and Makefile.user were in the top level directory (as a 'newbie' I had to take the file specified directory(ies) therein as correct). One more thing, did you successfully build the program "makelx" (does cygwin use .exe extensions?). Since you could build the kernel, my previous suggestion is probably wrong. I think you need to type "make --unix" when building with Cygwin. If this fixes it, you'll want to find out what the environment variable for setting make defaults is. (...) (24 years ago, 11-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

That's a 'plotter' input device you're descibing - it used to be quite a popular input device for CAD (and I think still is at the high end of the market), but for general use, the mouse has replaced it. David, I seem to remember I had a similar problem (but I'm using Linux, so YMMV). In the Makefile, check that the lines where Makefile.common & Makefile.user are included specify the correct directory. They should be in the top-level LegOS (...) The kernel is successfully loaded into the RCX and the 'ch7' directory holds the 'simple.c' source listing along with a copy of the 'Makefile'(all as per instructions in the book "Extreme Mindstorms" pp151 to 154 incl.) (...) gcc uses a different method for this than egcs did. When configuring the gcc cross-compiler, add the option "--with-newlib". This will do the inhibit libc things. Pinnacle Systems has a USB video capture device which allows one to capture the analog video signal. Apparently it only works with the Lego cam. Using any other camera (USB or not) will not work as several people here tried it already. I have both the lego camera and the XCam2. XCam2 is great as long as you have plenty of light! Otherwise, the (...) (24 years ago, 8-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

I think I didn't mention that there is an addition for XCam2 called XRay which makes XCam2 a usb webcam. My question was if it could be used. There seems to be a common misconception that all cameras are equal! They are not. The kind of interface commonly found in webcams and the Lego cam are USB based digital ones which are supported by the O/S and deliver digitised images as bits maps (...) I just got RIS1.0 and can't seem to get the RCX to respond using MacNQC or RCX Command Center running under Virtual PC 3.0. My cabling seems ok (using Palm 3 mac serial port adapter) as the green light on the IR tower comes on whenever I send a (...) (24 years ago, 28-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

On a slightly related note, I've been trying to get all this to work via Linux on a PowerBook FireWire. I have a keyspan USB PDA adapter (USA-19), I seem to be able to at a minimum send characters to the tower (the green light of justice lights up) (...) I was using cygwin-b20 and it worked a treat on my win2k machine, but with the latest version (116), the compiler seems to die, it makes a (...) My first guess would be that the RCX doesn't have firmware loaded (If you see "00.00" on the display, firmware is loaded, if you just see an icon and "1", then it isn't). Second guess (...) Hello Up until yesterday my nephew has been using the Xircom USB to Serial adapter on an iMac (Blueberry 350 ) with MPW NQC quite successfully. While compiling my simple battery voltage indicator after an upgrade from 0.2.2 to 0.2.5 (CVS from sourceforge) I get no errors during the build or ld and then: /ibm/legOS/sourcefor...til/makelx battery.ds1 battery.ds2 battery.lx single byte (...) I have been playing around with controlling LEGO trains with the control lab and the RCX but keep bumping in to the same problem. I need the motor output to be smoother and slower. What, exactly does it mean when dll says "error creating program"? I run into this from time to time where it will give me this error, but reloading the OS makes it go away... for a while.
