You have not explained how or why an open expression of sexuality is inherently
better than "prudishness;" you've merely said that you agree with Europeans
instead of Americans. That's fine, but why? Why should we not err on the side
of caution in terms of exposing our children to sexual messages until those
children are old enough or mature enough to adequately understand their sexual
issues? Why should one person's "right" to be tittilated by a public display of
sexuality (on TV, beaches, etc.) be more pressing than my future children's
right to to be free from those images until they can make sense (with my help)
of their sexuality? Again, explain to me how "prudishness" has less value
content than a laize-fare (pardon my spelling) attitude toward sexuality. I can
think of lots of good reasons why we should be conservative (please don't read
Republican or religious into that word, because that is neither what I mean, nor
what the word means) toward sexuality in our culture, but precious few reasons
why we should not.
