Hey I love the little people.  As Matthew said their cute.

If you want my guess as to why I think you need go no further than standard
LEGO measurements.  Both the legs and the base of the torso are 1x2 studs which
allows 1. you to attach then to other things 2. use them in different places
other than as Figs.
