My conclusion is that the minifig was developed to be a (...) (24 years ago, 19-Jun-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build, lugnet.build.minifigs)

(...) Was it? I seem to recall owning a few classic space sets before my sister got her Kitchen homemaker set. What was the release chronology? Some time ago there was a discussion of "first minifigs," but I can't locate it at the moment. Dave! (24 years ago, 14-Jun-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build.minifigs)
