Some readers may recall with fondness this highpoint of American discourse:
http://www.cnn.com/US/9901/27/word.flap/index.html
so it's no surprise that similar word-scapegoating is still going on:
http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/03/11/sprj.irq.fries/index.html
But the French have made similar lexicographic revisions, some of which I
list for you below:
"American Diplomacy" becomes "Cowboy Hegemony"
"American Military" becomes "Excuse for Runaway Spending"
"American Patriotism" becomes "Excuse for Disemboweling the Bill of Rights"
"American National Security" becomes "Excuse for Anything Whatsoever"
"American Environmental Protection" becomes "Corporate free-for-all"
"American Religious Freedom" becomes "Freedom to worship any Christian God"
"American Bilateralism" becomes "Everyone Doing What The US Tells Them To Do"
"American Bipartisanship" becomes "Bowing to the Will of the Republicans"
"American President" becomes "Installed Fascist Dictator"
"Ugly American" becomes "American"
