I would certainly rather not have my plane fall from the sky. That is
precisely why I'd rather there be real consequences to such an accident.
I assume and believe:
1) Getting airplanes to fly doesn't require voodoo.
2) A well maintained airplane is safe when operated skillfully.
3) Companies exist almost solely to generate wealth for the owners.
4) In order for shareholder value to increase, a company's cashflow must
usually be positive.
5) If it is cheaper to maintain and operate airplanes such that they will not
drop out of the sky, that is what companies will do.
6) Since companies will do that, flying will be safer than it is currently
where laxity on the part of companies are shielded by government programs and
fishy courts.
But maybe it's just me.
