That's a pity. I was hoping I could talk you into a day trip to Austin for the
Texlug meeting.
Speaking of Hobby, about 8 years ago one of my closest friends, B, was dropping
off one of his friends at Hobby who was catching a plane to St. Louis. B, who
didn't have a ticket to StL decided to board said plane just to see if he could.
B succeeded and none would have ever been the wiser for it, until he panicked
when the plane started to fire up. He made a big deal about getting off and how
he was only there to keep his friend company until the plane took off, and he
didn't know better, etc., etc. (none of which was true.) Needless to say,
airport security was called, he was given a stern talking-to, and the SW flight
schedule to the Midwest was probably backed up about 15 minutes for the rest of
the day.
This is pretty juvenile, but back when B and I got out of high school (9 years
ago), we used to sometimes hang out at Hobby (because we both lived - especially
me -- hard beside the south runway), and just generally act stupid. B. had a
routine he called Cup Boy. I think he was inspired by something or other on
Letterman. He'd put it over his mouth and just jump up and down in one place
just outside the main entrance on the 1st floor garage level (where all the
traffic and buses pull through -- you may be familiar with this spot, Larry.)
Anyway, we could carry on for hours with impunity.
Hopefully security is a bit tighter at Hobby Airport now.
james, who is not sure whether this belongs in fun, or, for obvious reasons,
debate.
