Sun's implementations are free. Some others are not. Personally I use
Sun's jdks...

if you are under a Windows environment
As a reply to Leonardo msg: You are right, but I encourage newcomers to
the Java language to use Jdk 1.2.x (aka Java2). It is more powerful in
several ways:
- richer API
- more extensions, especially Java3D (can be found on the above server)
- a Just-In-Time compiler (aka JIT) that speed thinks up!
