Good question! + reduces file size by 50% + 50% less vertices to adjust when building "by hand" + triangles plays havoc with smooth shading (the helical artefact that can be seen here (URL) disappears when triangles are converted to quads. There is one more thing to add to Joshua extensive explanations: coplanar triangle pairs are not assembled into quads. I have two authored parts under my belt, but both of them were modeled strictly by eye and patience. While rendering, I found a positional error in one of the LGEO files. The part is lg_32068: Technic Axle Joiner Perpendicular 3 Long (Steering Link). The translation of the part needs to be changed from: translate <LGBRICKWIDTH, 0, 0> to translate (...) (14 years ago, 3-Sep-10, to lugnet.cad, FTX)
