You'll have a very hard time making a ball-and-socket design bear a load and turn without lots of friction. Putting wheels between the ball and the socket just brings us back to the problem that we were trying to avoid by not having wheels. A much (...) (25 years ago, 3-Aug-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Don't use Lithium Ion (was Re: RCX battery cover)

Someone sent me an e-mail reply saying that they had used an external Lithium Ion battery pack to power their RCX, and that after a few days of use the RCX appeared to stop working, then they discovered that it only worked with internal batteries.   Re: web controllable robots & LNP

(...) This gives me a bit of an idea... Presumably there is not much to stop me (or anyone else) coding some or all of the non-RCX parts of this LNP thing using Tcl - 2400 baud is hardly high speed! I had been wondering about how to keep most of the (...) (25 years ago, 3-Aug-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Lego is like nanomachines

Building with Legos is like building nanomachines. There's a limited number of types of parts, although you've got lots to build from. And you can only attach them together in certain spots, just like atoms and molecules. (25 years ago, 3-Aug-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: RCX battery cover
