Most of the official sets seem to use pulleys and rubber belts rather than gears (probably because these are much quieter than gears) but (...) I just picked up one of the old style 9v technic motors and I am having a problem. (URL) works just fine when I just run it so the motor is ok. The more precise your model, the more washers and shims are needed to make things work per your design. The worm gear always needs a washer or two depending how many you use end for end. I have even used plastic wrap between beams to get that "just (...) (24 years ago, 9-Apr-01, to lugnet.technic)

Dean, it's probably dumb luck that the two drives on the piece I'm working on have little slack. Yet, with LEGO beams and blocks you can't use every gear combination; there are published beam/block/plate combinations that let this or that pair of (...) There is one real simple way to eliminate backlash: Use LEGO's 'small-link chain' with their normal gears as sprockets. I paid CAN$7.00 for 135 links from Pitsco-Dacta's Canadian vendor. It's not so much the "conical" gear that takes the backlash out of the setup that Bob Fay provided links to, but the ability to use the technic axles as torsion springs and keep the gear teeth in the train loaded at all times. The closest thing to an anti-backlash gear is the Conical gear (a misnomer). It can be used to load a gear train. I have used this in a design by Iain Hendry. Well-well looks like no more polarity reverser availible thru Pistco, I checked out the spare parts pages and - no can find, I guess it's not on the web site , could'nt hurt to ask them, I guess since the Lego Shop at home services has taken a turn (...) (24 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.technic)

I guess it's called a 'polarity switch' I did about a million different searches to try and find one, and there's one for sale at a Norwegian brickbay store for $12, and I'm wondering if that's worth it...you say I can find it from pitsco? Do they (...) (24 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.technic)

Do you mean the Polarity reverser? or the Toggle joint with 1x axle sticking out of it? the Polarity switch is available at Pitsco Dacta in the sare parts packs. ????? (...) (24 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.technic)
