Hi everyone; I had a question on the 8857 Street Chopper model from 1993. I
was looking at the instructions for this on Brickshelf and am wondering if
the chain in the rear has any purpose other than decoration. The 8-tooth
gear which is connected to the engine already has a direct link to the
24-tooth gear which goes to the wheels and requires no chain to function
properly. The 16-tooth gear that the chain leads to has an axle connected to
it which is closed off with a bushing. Another thing that looks interesting
is that the gear train from the differential to the engine is geared down
twice, which will probably make the engine go really fast (similar to the
8868 Airtech Claw Rig). Anyway does anyone know if the chain does anything
other than serve a purely cosmetic purpose?
BTW did anyone notice the MISB 8860 Auto Chassis up on ebay? The price for
that has gone higher than any single Technic item I've ever seen...

| (...) You are right, the chain drives a axle with no function. It's only decoration. Because the large tires the differential isn't turning very fast and thus the engine rpm is also not very high. By head I think the 8865 has one of the fastest (...) (24 years ago, 10-Apr-01, to lugnet.technic)
