(...) NO! Only my opinon, but the tool of choice is not a Dremel. If you do not already own a hand held rotary tool, I recommend a Black & Decker multi-speed. (...) There's probably a better way for the LEGO track, but I do know that there is a small saw-thingy that you can get at model railroad/hobby stores for cutting model railroad track. I have a question for a very novice modder.... Let's just say... someone wanted to cut some Lego train track... what fairly common, and inexpensive tool could an novice with a limited tool selection/budget to attempt said mod? (...) That is definatly a tuning coil. You may be able to swap the coil to the opposite side of the board, but adding long wire would be a vey bad idea. If you swap it, orientation is very important. (...) Tim, The "large thing" looks like some kind of coil+ferrite core to me. AFAIK That is really part of the tuned circuit for the radio reception. Norbert, Lots of good info in there! Here's a couple of suggestions for painting/tinting clear parts that I learned from scale modeling: Future floor polish (USA product name) is actually a clear acrylic coating. Hi Kevin (...) Thanks! (...) I'm not surprised you got similar results - PVA adhesive uses the same carrier medium as acrylic medium, with various gunk added to increase adhesion. Finally! I got my hands on one of the new LEGO produced lightup figs. You know what comes next - MUTILATION!!! OK! I finished the second batch and even fit in tweaking some series one faces. I now have a whopping 51 unique faces (12 are alternate faces, so 39 unique figs). I think the most impressive details are the braided hair on some of the anime figs, but all of the paint and customized head/headwear jobs are (...) Hi Bianca, Minifigs with noses creep me out. It's an artistic choice, making the head more realistic, less iconic than Smiley. Well, I prefer painting myself; but several people I know swear by printable decals. I beleive they use the same waterslide decals that modelers use for cars and airplanes. (...) Not impossible, but definitely too tough for even the likes of me. Consider this though: put the acetate inside the brick and then you would not have a smooth face on the outside. Check 'em out: (URL) extremely happy with the outcome. No shadows, no unsightly innards showing... Thanks to Admiral Giddens for the use of his site for reference material. The only nitpick I have is about the small place on the 1x2 that I cut too (...) (20 years ago, 23-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, lugnet.parts.mod) !
