Personally I have given up trying to figure out who started it. (There are so
many contradicting accounts of history it is absurd.)

A good starting point would be to review the accounts of Israeli armed
forces personal and government reports which come to light as the Israeli
30-year discloser law brings reveals them. Analysis of these is very slowly
revealing the truth. It is a pity Arab nations don’t have similar laws…

A good starting point would be this book:
The War for Palestine: Rewriting the History of 1948
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0521794765/eh105jb/104-8169609-6919969

or
The Iron Wall: Israel and the Arab World
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0393321126/eh105jb/104-8169609-6919969

or (I have not read this one yet)
The Birth of the Palestinian Refugee Problem, 1947-1949
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0521338891/eh105jb/104-8169609-6919969

These books share the benefit of being very well referenced, so the reader
can decide just how much the writer can be trusted.

I'd recommend buying them from your local bookshop so you can be sure you
like the style of writing before you buy.

(...) I'm not sure I care who started it (1). What I do care about are the following points: - That we acknowledge that the Jewish people had cause to trust that no existing government would protect their rights. - That we acknowledge that the (...) (...) Maybe because the international court is something no sane nation should support "as is." The lack of rights to a fair jury trial, language translator, and legal counsel are the 3 biggest reasons to NOT support the international court. It (...)
