The real worry at the moment is that no-brain greedy Texan clown that
happens to run the show in Washington. For some strange reason american
presidents feel they're president of the world.
If George Dubya decides Ariel Sharon is the goody and Arafat is the baddy,
who dares to differ? Not his #1 fan Tony B. anyway, and that spoils any
chances of Europe interfering.
If George Dubya decides he wants to continue where daddy left off (in
killing Saddam) who's gonna say no? Well, half the Arab world does, but who
cares?
The whole world knows that the Kyoto treaty is good for the environment, and
drilling for oil in Alaska is bad. Does Georgy care? No, 'cause he has to
pay back his filthy rich oil friends that got him where he is now.
Did anyone notice that the american government has passed a law that allows
the US to attack the Netherlands if they feel any american citizen is held
by the international court in The Hague? Why would the US want their army to
be above the law? Why are they the only major country that will not ratify
the treaty that forms the basis of the international court? Wouldn't have
anything to do with their normal practice? Wouldn't have anything to do with
all those civilians killed accidentally by 'precision bombing'?
Did George Dubya care about 14 innocent Palestinians getting accidentally
killed when the Israeli's dropped a bomb in the middle of a town to kill one
guy? No. But when 4 american students got killed in the retaliation all of a
sudden he was furious.
As long as this kind of crap goes on there is no hope of any solution in
Israel. In any other country there would have been a UN force months back. A
UN force to keep the Israeli's under control that is. Look what happened in
former Yugoslavia.

America, please send George back to Texas and let him think he's running an
oil company. Get yourself a proper president!

Duq

P.S. No, this is not meant to be subtle in any way. Just had to get it of my
chest.

Well, I've stayed out of here for a while, but something I just read has
compelled me to speak out. This statement from CNN (
http://www.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/meast/08/04/mideast/index.html ):

It [ Hammas ] also said Sunday's attack was carried
out to show its displeasure with results of
a U.N.-sponsored investigation into the
Israeli incursion into the Jenin refugee
camp in April.

If Israeli citizens are killed because the Palestinians don't like the
results of a UN investigation, then I fear they have no intention of
accepting any resolution towards peace (short of elimination of Israel).

I was also very disappointed by the bombing of the university, a
university whose presence in the Middle East pre-dates the formation of
Israel. What this tells me is that not only do the Palestinians (or at
least Hammas) not want Israel to be in the ME, they don't want ANY Jews
(even those who were living in the ME prior to the formation of Israel).

I honestly think it is time for those countries who wish to see peace,
and accept that BOTH Palestinians and Israelis must be part of that
peace plan, to enter the Palestinian territory and enforce peace within
that territory (including enforcement against Israeli actions). The PA
is showing itself completely incapable of controlling the actions of
it's people.

I do not find Israel blameless either, but unless the world is prepared
to re-settle the Israeli people someplace else, and to allow them to
create a self governing place for themselves, I see no solution. The
same is true of the Palestinians, however, they clearly need help in
creating that society.

I am very troubled by what is going on, and I can see both sides desire
and need for their own home. Sadly, the world blew it 70 years ago for
the Jewish people, and basically flipped them the bird, and now we are
paying the price for that. To get out of this mess, we need to not flip
the Palestinians the bird, and at the same time acknowledge the plight
of the Jewish people.

Frank

(...) Maybe because the international court is something no sane nation should support "as is." The lack of rights to a fair jury trial, language translator, and legal counsel are the 3 biggest reasons to NOT support the international court. It (...)
