Otherwise I am terribly cheap and
sometimes even find that 50% off is too much-- like at the current Target
clearance prices.  Unfortunately most people in this area find that 50% off is
a bargain, so there is no LEGO really left to go to 75% off. :-(

I had these thoughts as I went out to Target yesterday to eat the dead
things on the bottom of the fish tank.

Target in Queens, NY is New-York-speed. Nothing gets to stay around too long.

I first loaded up with 2001 sets. Sure, no clearance there. But yummy Escape
Pod, and the Dino Escape (Rex jaws) looked cool. I finally bought the Island
Hopper though its price has gone up 10% here to $22.

The oldest themes on the full shelves were: Dino Island and Arctic. Though
some of the small impulse sets were from 1999 or 2000. As I had feared,
X-Wing and Slave 1 are discontinued at my Target. They earlier had a 30% off
sale where I bought half a dozen. This time I even picked up a Slizer,
Frost. It's been a long while since I heard of it, and I'm glad I bought it.

Over in the 50% clearance aisle I found SW2000 in the form of MTT, Pit
Droid, and B-Wing. Sad to see the B-Wing being end-of-lifed--that was a good
set which I was even buying at just 20% off. (Before the cheapskate
conviction.) Almost final curtain for Star Wars in the store manager's view?
I hope the 2001 classic SW sets will get stocked when available.

Knight's Kingdom is history, though it's still in the mini catalog with LOM.
UCS is out on clearance.

Rock Raiders: I have lately started to like these. All they had left were
the big base for $44--at least it's 10 cents/piece.  I will probably always
believe big sets like this are overpriced for their play value.

The 245pc mini-red bucket 4285 is here late at $7; the part mix is very
basic town; blue door is back; green Outback jacket minifig.

Blue tubs are also history; as I had feared Winnie the Pooh is gone (and so
are those Forest Friends.) Good thing I got the Pooh.

If tubs and stuff are still in the Lego 2001 mix, perhaps Target will make
room again, but meanwhile their Lego is full and has lost ground to Knex and
Playmobil.

Keep in mind this is a New York City Target. It's our first one, and they
have to operate a little differently to stay alive.

This actually is normal for Target and some other retailers, selection expands for the Christmas/Holiday Season then shrinks the rest of the year, numerous sets disappear for the warmer months (ya I know how cold it is outside ATM :^) Then (...) You have seen the MASSIVE discounts on some of the Pooh sets on Etoys, right? If I could stomach Duplo, I'd buy some. (...) -- Tom Stangl ***(URL) Visual FAQ home ***(URL) Bay Area DSMs (24 years ago, 15-Jan-01, to lugnet.market.shopping)
