This "problem" probably doesn't warrant this much discussion but what the
hell. :-)
Re: Special Characters in store names - I think it's pretty cheesy. I'm
less likely to browse a store that's at the top of the list because of
such a trick but it wouldn't stop me from buying from them if a search
turned up what I wanted in their store. But as has already been said,
any rule can be abused. No special characters? Use a number. No numbers?
Call your store "A Brick Too Far". And so on. Plus, I'm not convinced
being at the top of the listing is that much of an advantage unless
you're selling exactly the same parts as several other stores.
Re: Ranking by number of pieces - Why? It's already pretty easy to skim
down the list and find sellers with > 10000 or > 1000 pieces for sale.
Even if the listing were not abused you still just end up with the shops
listing thousands of regular bricks at the top. I have yet to see a shop
that would be near the top of a # of parts listing that isn't primarily
full of regular bricks.
Re: Ranking by number of pieces sold - Sounds like it would highlight
those stores selling bulk bricks at the best price. Not a bad thing
but no help for me personally.
Re: Ranking by number of lots (or lots sold) - Interesting, though I doubt
it would help me in my browsing.
Being able to choose the sort order sounds like the best option, assuming
it's worth messing with at all. If so, then I'd really like to see the
option of sorting by number or parts (or lots) by category. I.e, stores
with the most minifig weapons or with the most decorated tiles.
The real trick to me is trying to identify those shops that sell what
I'm looking for, which typically isn't regular bricks or Star Wars or
Ninja parts - I already have tons of those (and will eventually probably
list lots of them for sale in my own store). I'm mostly looking for parts
that are harder to find these days and I can't think of an store listing
order that would help with that.
Shameless plug: my store - http://www.brickbay.com/store.asp?p=dfinney -
mostly sells that sort of thing, too, so check it out if you haven't
already.
