If so, the parts I suggest

2739 Technic Liftarm  6L with Ball Joint Sockets

I've long given up on arguing for any of this too strongly,
but 2739 is a steering throw-rod, no doubt about it.  To move
it into liftarm or axle status is not the way to go, IMHO.

IMHO we should try to describe parts as genericly (sp?) as possible
regardless of the obvious or how LEGO has used it in any particular set(s).
There's always some imaginative builder who can use a part in a way nobody
thought of before. Let's try not to limit that imagination.

2739 was created (well, released) in 1988 as part of a very
specific series of steering parts, and has that specific function
that it was designed for.  It can be used in many other ways,
but that's really its purpose.

2736 Ball-hitch with axle
2737 Technic steering arm, 2 ball hitches
2738 Technic steering a-frame
2739 Technic #6 tie-rod, end ball-hitches (female)

No, I don't think that would be the way to go.

But back to the liftarm category.  In my opinion, it is wrong to put
the halfbeams into this category.  The halfbeams are smooth beams with
rounded ends and no studs and with a half stud width.  I think we need
a new category to catch these elements, as well as the fairly new full
width smooth beams with rounded ends.

Agreed, both on the half-width and full-width beams should be something
other than "liftarm".

The problem was the third element in the list of parts packs I
mentioned: a 1x3 rounded "half beam".  TLG started it.

(...) Well put. Describe parts by their geometry and connectivity configuration, not by the theme they came from or the type of use they were first put to. ONLY when doing so is terribly unweildly (sp!) would I break from that. Thus: not "rod 5l (...) (23 years ago, 7-Jan-02, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw)

(...) It comes from this: (URL) from the 1x4 and 1x3 versions, the term expanded. I've been using the term almost as long as James did, if not longer, because of those set names. It IS a term that came from TLG (TLC), but not necessarily from the (...) (23 years ago, 5-Jan-02, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw)
