Hi y'all! Yes, this is Steve, once again geeking on the parts library organization. :) We've currently got a group of parts labeled 'Cylinder'. See <http://guide.lugnet.com/partsref/cylinder/> for a list of the parts. But there's a problem: not all of these parts are actually cylinders. Another problem is that are other parts, such as the 'space radar dishes' <http://guide.lugnet.com/partsref/search.cgi?q=%2Bradar+%2Bdish>, that need a better home. So, I'd like to propose a new category for all round(ed) parts. I think this could work like the Slope and Hinge categories. For slopes, the part names all start with 'Slope Brick'. Which implies that there might be 'Slope Tile', or 'Slope Panel', or whatever else LEGO might come up. So for the 'Round' category, we could start with the existing parts: 553.DAT Cylinder 2 x 2 with Dome Top 30151.DAT Cylinder 2 x 2 x 1 & 2/3 with Dome Top 30361.DAT Cylinder 2 x 2 x 2 Robot Body 6259.DAT Cylinder 2 x 4 x 4 30360.DAT Cylinder 3 x 6 x 2 2/3 Horizontal 30208.DAT Cylinder 4 x 4 Hemisphere Multifaceted 4740.DAT Space Radar Dish 2 x 2 3960.DAT Space Radar Dish 4 x 4 4285.DAT Space Radar Dish 6 x 6 Webbed 3961.DAT Space Radar Dish 8 x 8 And re-title them to: 553.DAT Round Cylinder 2 x 2 with Dome Top 30151.DAT Round Cylinder 2 x 2 x 1 & 2/3 with Dome Top 30361.DAT Round Cylinder 2 x 2 x 2 Robot Body 6259.DAT Round Panel 2 x 4 x 4 30360.DAT Round Cylinder 3 x 6 x 2 2/3 Horizontal 30208.DAT Round Cylinder 4 x 4 Hemisphere Multifaceted 4740.DAT Round Dish 2 x 2 3960.DAT Round Dish 4 x 4 4285.DAT Round Dish 6 x 6 Webbed 3961.DAT Round Dish 8 x 8 In general, does this sound like a well-rounded idea? I've put together a list of possible candidates for the new Round category, and how I think they should sort out. I've included three groups of parts: 'Put in Round', 'Not Sure' and 'Probably Not', to match how I feel about them. I excluded parts I (...) (22 years ago, 4-Jan-02, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw)

(...) It sounds like a good idea, although it fails the "is a" test. That is, if I look at a piece in my hand, I might think "It is a brick" "It is a slope" "It is a hinge" "It is a plate". (...) Part 6259 (or should it be 6218 ??) IS NOT A CYLINDER. (URL) agree that it fits into the Cyliner category and agree that 2 of these pieces make a cylinder, but just 1 unit is only a HALF CYLINDER. So, Part 6259 should be renamed. The name I (...)
