Note: I'm sort of playing devil's advocate here. I think there is a
difference between eBay and a sealed bid auction, but I'm not convinced
there is enough that they shouldn't both be considered auctions.

I personally think that SBA's are enough of an auction that they shouldn't • be
in .BST.  However, I've sort-of come around to agreeing with Todd on • allowing
them there, for a couple of reasons.

First being that there really isn't a sufficient distinction between a SBA • and
an OBO to say that one is allowed and the other isn't.  However, what's • mostly
convinced me is that if it's decided that SBA's are verbotten in BST, then • the
line gets (naturally) pushed farther over, and other things, that should be • in
BST suddenly become the gray area.  My brain isn't working enough to • provide
concrete examples right now, but I think you can see what I'm saying.

I happen to agree. In fact, if OBO's become relegated to
lugnet.market.auction, then the only things which would be acceptable for
buy-sell-trade would be "this is available to the first person who sends me
10 bucks".

What I'm ultimately trying to get to is what is different about the various
types of offers, and where should the lines be drawn. I'm inclined to see
slightly different lines than Lugnet currently uses. I would see
buy-sell-trade being for any announcement which is basically a one off
announcement, a new group, ebay for eBay announcements, and auction being
for those auctions where updates will be posted. Other commercial auction
services may also need their own group depending on traffic (yahoo and
serious collector come to mind immediately).

Or perhaps the distinction should be that if an item is flogged in
buy-sell-trade, someone making an offer should expect no response whatsoever
unless their offer is accepted. On the other hand, that seems harsh.
