Well, I guess I'll jump in now and present my list of wants:

A decent socket for the towballs. I think the towball is an under-utilized
part because there's a lack of decent parts with socket receptacles. For
example, take the end of this part:
http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/32195
and leave a few axle holes connected to it so that the socket can be easily
attached to something else (like a beam). Or take this connector:
http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/32039
and put a ball socket on the end instead of an axle holder.

How about a "clutch" version of every gear:
http://guide.lugnet.com/partsref/search.cgi?q=6542
It would be nice to have a range of gears with a smooth bore and a
receptacle for the transmission driving ring.

Crawler treads! Yes, I know they exist already, but I wish Lego would make
them again and have them readily available. For my ultimate wish, I'd prefer
a new version that stayed connected better and that was spaced out a little
more so that you could easily attach a 1xn plate on each tread.

Larger gears! Someone already mentioned this, but I'd like to see a 56t
version, and perhaps larger.

1x3 and 1x5 beams (again, mentioned already)

A complex rotating part that allowed for a concentric axle to transmit
power. This is a little vague, but look at the new 8012 joints:
http://www.texbrick.com/quick_pics/8012/joints1.jpg
and imagine them larger in diameter, but hollow in the center so that you
could pass an axle through it with a U-joint at the knuckle.

Sleeves for the axles to create concentric shafts. Take the 2L pin joiner:
http://guide.lugnet.com/partsref/search.cgi?q=75535
and make it longer, and with toothed ends so that you could connect the dark
gray 16t "clutch" gears.

Planetary gears (mentioned before, but I really want them! Hey John, you
sellin'?)

1x24 beams or studless beams. Okay, a little nuts, but they would be good
for large truss bridges.

1x2 studless beams.

Larger triangles. Take the existing one:
http://guide.lugnet.com/partsref/search.cgi?q=2905
and make it 7 or 9-wide and 5 or 7-deep. They might be useful as gusset
plates when making a truss structure.

A new method of axle connection so that you have axles that resist tension.
Threaded axles could be used, but they're such a rare part, and are
relatively weak. Perhaps you could make a special toggle joint that snapped
on the end of a notched axle (like the notches in the 2L axles), and would
prevent the axle from pulling out under tension.

A very compact differential. I think the existing ones could be reduced in
size. Perhaps you could use smaller bevel gears, but then you'd have to make
a new bevel gear.

Helical toothed gears.
http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/gear-intro.jpg
and especially those that mesh at 90° so that we can do away with the
existing bevel gears.

Larger pneumatic cylinders. Remote control pneumatic switches. Pressure
sensor with motor shut-off.

Polarity switch that incorporated potentiometers, much like the train
controller, but more compact.

I'd say RC control equipment, but HiTechnic has filled that gap already. So
pppbbbtthhh on Lego! Now only if HiTechnic could incorportate the polarity
switch/potentiometer idea into a controller...

I'll stop now. Whew! I could go on forever, I think!

(...) Why? Couldn't you just cut the end off 1x4 and 1x6 beams? Seems like you're not applying the same logic as for my request for the pins? But who cares? This is just for fun / light entertainment isn't it :-) William PS And the answer to "Why?" (...) (22 years ago, 2-Apr-02, to lugnet.technic)

I'm sure I'm not the only one who sometimes wishes for certain parts that TLC don't make .... yet. So, in hopes that it might inspire some Lego design engineer somewhere to go ahead and just make a few, I've decided to maintain a list of such items (...) (22 years ago, 1-Apr-02, to lugnet.technic)
