Yeah, Roboslizonicles are a great source of supply of "raw" material ;)
The part you describe yields a ball with a short length of cross axle
attached from the other end when you chop it up as well.
With some of these highly specialised parts, I try to view them as a woodman
looks at a felled tree - how best to cut it up to maximise the available raw
material.
I have a little robot figurine I made which has greater than 50% "recycled"
parts in it which is named "Xacto" :) I took it to Brickfest last year as a
"who can spot all the unofficial parts in this model" model. The answer is -
well re-engineered Lego can be hard to distinguish from the real thing when
its built into a model ;)
