Anthony Daniels (man inside C-3PO) spoke of this scene in the Star Wars
Insider magazine. According to him there was a large subplot written in which
rebels caught wampas to protect themselves, and while the base was being
overrun by stormtroopers, and 3PO was running through the halls, he did rip
off a paper-like sign. Daniels mused that it took a very long time to film
that scene because he had trouble manuvering the suit enough to tear down the
sign. For many of the reasons listed above those scenes were cut, and Lucas
could not have been overly upset about it as he did not even attempt to revive
them for the special edition.
