Please think very carefully before you design anything for a

Fine, when you're talking about text, but if you've got a lot of images,
pixel size does matter.

Yes, but not necessarily much. If you really think the
layout is important you should use PDF or PostScript. You
will never be able to control layout on the web (that's an
important part of what makes it something special).

If you want to control layout, what do you do about people
who have two tall 620 pixel wide browser windows side by
side on one of their monitors? Things will definitely look
different there than in the wider but lower window which you
seem to design in.

You _can_ scale the images relative to the window width, if
you want to make sure they fit in the window.

Anyway. If we assume that the web designers who work for
LEGO aren't complete morons, and that the distribution of
window sizes used when surfing on fan sites is the same as
on the official site, then the typical window is 640 pixels
wide and equally tall (unless my browser behaves wierder
than usual).

Play well,

Jacob

PS: I would like to see a page where the actual content
(which I presume mostly is images of LEGO models) needs
    a fixed page width.
PPS: You should be aware that some browsers have options,
where you can scale images relatively to their
     specified size.

(...) Oh, I agree, basically. But on the other hand, the web has turned into something other than what its original designers envisioned. Presentation _is_ important, and it's important in HTML, not just in proprietary Adobe formats. Even the (...) (25 years ago, 18-Sep-99, to lugnet.publish)
