Nah, conventional fantasy is *way* too repeated.

Maybe I should re-evaluate a few of my prospects.
Just a few moments ago I came up with the idea of
shards in my story, but I won't reveal that until
later. (just sounds so cool, though.)

Perchance the inclusion of several interesting
new items might draw in the reader. Like you
said earlier with the 'seed village' factor, I
think I've got a few nice ideas on hand.

Hi Matt, Just delurking to adding my two-cents. Of all the books on writing that I've read, Kit Reed's "Story First: The Writer As Insider" is, by far, the easiest to digest. She writes in a pretty straightforward, conversational tone. It's not (...) (22 years ago, 24-Dec-02, to lugnet.publish)
