Is it based on the computer game genre 'Riven' by any chance?
Probably not, sounds deftly similar, though.

Nope, nothing to do with Riven. DE wrote two series of 6 books (double
trilogies), the first 6 being "The Belgrariad": the central character was
Belgarion, King of Riva. Hence the Rivan Codex - there's a lot of behind-teh
scenes and early-versions of stuff related to teh Belgariad in there, plus a
long essay at the beginning about how he (DE, not Belgarion! :-)  ) goes
about creating fantasy worlds.

Matt, I second a lot of the advice given here. You have plot, you have
characters - you've got the creative part sussed! What you need is the
technique, the craft of writing, and that takes learning and practice. So • go
to it! I highly recommend a dictionary for those $5 words: if you don't • use
them correctly, you lose both the people who don't understand them AND the
people who do, leaving you with a rather small audience :-(

Thanks for the advice! How far did you read into the
story? (just evaluating. You're the test audience so I
highly value those comments.)

I read about three screens worth.

Attaining a creative equilibrium between the spectrums
of extremity and vagueness

OK, what does this mean? I understand all the words individually, but the
combination doesn't make sense to me. Do you mean on a spectrum between
extremity and vagueness? If so, how is extremity an opposite of vagueness?
If there was going to be a spectrum, I'd put it between clarity and
vagueness. Or are there two spectra involved?
