(bricktestament being my only source to biblical teaching)

Eh, do yourself a favor and learn about the Bible from credible
commentary, or the source itself. BPS must even cringe at that
revelation.

Well, yes and no. I agree that going to the source is the best way, but if
Samarth was to do a Hindu equivalent of the Brick Testament Im sure you
would find a lot of stuff in it that you were coming to for the first time.
|
Exactly. Thats why I wouldnt trust it. I mean, even though Samarth
hasnt read the Bible, he was sharp enough to ask does the Bible really say
or mean that? It really doesnt.
I know that it is BPSs intention to portray it in a mockingly negative
manner, but that is The Reverends shtick.
JOHN

Actually, it does really say that. Go read the entire passage and you will
see that it says and means exactly that.
I have seen an analysis which added a whole lot of created meaning to it in
order to make it mesh with the common ideas of modern Christianity but the
words and meaning are there plain and simple.

Sorry to respond... I forgot to mention something:
I do think that the translation Do you think I have come to bring peace on
earth? No, I tell you, but hostility! as used by the Reverand is probably not
as accurate as Do you think I have come to bring peace on earth? No, I tell
you, but division! given the following statements. The implication of violent
division does remain in the next bit of the passage.
There is a certain irony to the I have come to set son against father... line
given that the OT clearly states in numerous passages that a son should obey the
father in all things although I guess there might be an ultimate father clause
where God overrules a worldly father... hard to say.
