Hmm, is a MOC actually covered by copyright? It may only be protected by
design patents, which I don't think are automatic. Are sculptures protected
by copyright?

(...) I'm obviously not an IP lawyer. My impression is that Lucasfilm owns the copyrights to the image/design of an X-wing. Lego could not produce a kit that resembles anything like an x-wing without first obtaining Lucas's permission. Likewise I (...) (20 years ago, 15-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) Yes, sculptures are covered by copyright, and there are also some artist rights, retained by the artist even after selling the sculpture and all copyrights to it. Design Patent protection is not automatic, and it's expensive and has a limited (...) (20 years ago, 15-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
