I am British. A lot of your post seemed to be written assuming
I was American.

Being British, though, am well aware of our own brutal history.
We invented the concentration camp, endorsed creation of the
state of Israel, more to get rid of the problem of administering
it, and pretty much abandoning the region afterwards.

I'm a little lost, Richard, for what you are apologizing regarding the State
of Israel.  The Partition Plan had GB occupying Palestine for a set amount
of time (30 years), so the withdrawal was very much a planned one.  Further,
GB never supported the creation of the State of Israel: it did its best to
screw the Jews who wanted to form the State.  Maybe that is what you meant.
