I can't see that we do. Sure, we have politicians regurgitating all kinds
of pretty vocalized crap, but I haven't seen many real attempts at apology.

Um, sorry, wrong. The people as a whole *didn't* do these things. Neither,
I'm sure, did the individual leaders. Sick individuals following even
sicker individuals did these things, at the call of their leaders. But as a
result, the people get the reprisals.

Sure, we responded. We responded quickly and well. It ended the war a
helluva lot quicker than conventional warfare. And we've done a lot to
rebuild Japan after the war. But we didn't do enough.
Then again, my mom is always telling me that the Japanese won the war, after
almost fourty years of extremely good economy. So perhaps it evens out.

Nothing is so simple as that, my friend. This was no holy war, contrary to
what you've seen in the movies (1). This was no simple matter of ending a
singluar conflict which was started by one people as a whole. This was the
culmination of a series of bad attitudes, political mistakes, and unchecked
territorialism by both sides. In essence, we both started it.

You gotta try this mango and peach salsa I've found. I think the brand name
is Santa Barbara. It's a little weak, but I mix in a bit of hot Pace's, and
it's wonderful.
