Todd,
(and everyone else too!)
I would think that they -might- put a stipulation on that you cannot resell
directly (Ie auction on E-bay for 3x the money).  I would agree with a limit
like that.

Why would they do that but not care about people doing the same with the 4532,
5571 or 8480?  They have all sold on eBay for a ton more than they were at
Shop @ Home while S@H still had them in stock.  I personally think that they
have no right to complain.  When I go to the supermarket and see them charging
$3.99 for a pound of walnuts I sold them for $1.65, do I have the right to
complain?  They paid me.  At that point, the product is theirs to do with as
they please.  Same principle here.

I also would agree if they said : no building sets from parts -for
resale-.   This then allows people either to:

A. sell the instructions (created with Ldraw, which really is all Larry is
copywriting anyway)
B. Give away instructions knowing that the parts are available through L@D

It also avoids the potencial problem of someone getting really antsy and • sueing
L@D for being part of a deal that goes bad (possible, but unlikely)

As a personnal thing, I think that the first restriction would be a -good-
one.

I think any restrictions onwhat you can do with them are bad.  If they get
paid, who cares if they sell them or flush them down the toilet.

As for Todd saying he would boycott a bulk ordering system that had
restrictions, I would be more than happy to boycott them AFTER I buy all the
parts I need for personal use.

Realistically, there is no way they could make restrictions work.  It is just
too hard to police, even with 30% of all mini-figs working for the police.  :-)

Also, I think that for some parts it will likely still be cheaper to buy sets
and part them out.  I doubt all parts will ever be available, and I would
expect to be paying a premium for parts from L@D.

(...) As long as you are not competing with TLC in the same venue, I agree. Is someone makes a better X-wing which impacts TLCs sales, then TLC winds up with a bunch of unsold boxes in a warehouse. Other than that, I don't see any problem. The other (...) (25 years ago, 12-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)
