Cheaper net-access is one thing, and true; but another thing is cheap lego.
You have NO idea how expensive and/or hard-to-find lego is in non-US/Euro
countries. I NEVER EVER bought lego in Israel in the 12 years (out of 16) • that
I've lived there. I got it from europe, the US, any source that I could
possibly get it.
Just so you get a feel for it, in the biggest lego-carrying toy store network
(called Han toys) I would rarely see more than 10 sets. I would often see • sets
at prices that you would never believe, like 5571 for 1000 NIS (at the time
~$330, nowadays more like $250).

Net access is pretty good in Aust.(1 in 2 people have access to the Net)

There is a big opportunity for a US citizen/s to make a living selling to
other countries the LSAH and full US range of sets, just tack a percentage
on to make it worthwhile (the US has a low retail price + clearances).
Need I mention the coming Lego Direct.
Wait... there's the name ...Lego-Indirect.

Amazon will deliver books to Aust.,but not Lego, maybe there's some legal
stuff I am unaware of.

Re: cost and availability of Lego. Our range is reasonably good -- most sets
come out here a few months after they appear in the US. The real limit is the
price. In general 2x US$MSRP = $AU RRP (so 7131 costs $US15 in America, or
about AU$30 in Australia). Some of the difference comes from having a weak
currency, but that doesn't really lessen the pain. On top of that, the best
sort of sale we can hope for here is 25% off (the recent 50% off SW at Target
was a major aberration as far as I could tell).

(...) There was also the sale a couple of weeks ago where all Lego was 25% off, and SW, Ninja, Insectoids, Fright Nights were all 50% off. Maybe they saw the massive surge in spending because of the mistake and thought, "Let's try it again"? --daveL (24 years ago, 3-May-00, to lugnet.loc.au)
