Yup!

Something like that would be wonderful.

Hmmm, I wonder if off-site pages would really benefit from a rigid template,
because that could be left to the on-site pages for the subgroups. (It'd be
nearly impossible to enforce an off-site template, anyway -- so the best it
could be is a starting point.)
The new website structure, for example
http://www.lugnet.com/loc/se/
is a first tiny step toward templates for subgroups... It's very easy to
add new links, for example, and of course all the latest news messages
automatically appear there for the whole lugnet.loc.se.* hierarchy. Later
the left column will turn into something more general where arbitrary
hypertext can be placed (including links) and sub-pages can be defined for
any group. That'll all be on a rigid-template basis so it can be integrated
with the core DB's and also to keep a consistent user interface across the
site. Rigid templates are nice for some things, but they'll never be able
to do the great variety of things that are happening at places like
www.baylug.org (San Francisco Bay Area LEGO Users Group), www.pnltc.org
(Pacific Northwest LEGO Train Club), and www.ldraw.org (The LDraw Project),
for instance.

I like it. Would you like to start a new thread for this, crossposted to
lugnet.admin.general and lugnet.loc.se, with a URL link back to this node
on the present thread for additional background?
