Alrighty, here's the scoop:
If you're fortunate enough to be running Netscape Navigator, which handles
multiple quick-search boxes on a single page correctly, then you'll get a
second search box on the main homepage. Its labeled "Search Set Database"
and works just like before.
OTOH, if you're running Internet Explorer, the second search box is replaced
by a static link to the sets search page.
I really hate to make browser-specific detections and changes like this, but
since MSIE is broken with respect to multiple quick-search boxes, this seems
like a reasonable second-best compromise. A third-best compromise (not
chosen) would have been to put tiny Submit buttons after both entry fields,
but these would have to appear everywhere on the site in order for the design
to remain consistent going forward, and that would really gunk things up
unnecessarily.
BTW, if anyone happens to know whether more recent versions of MSIE handle
multiple quick-search boxes correctly, I could make the logic a little more
sensitive to the browser version number.

I put this in too.
