Ok, he emailed me. I will try to get together with him ASAP so there is • time
to process what I find.

I am still waiting for him to call me. I am becoming more skeptical, but
maybe he will prove me right.

Well forget it. He emailed me and told me the amount of money he was
wanting, it is way high. I don't think it is worth my time to go look at the
Lego and you guys would never raise enough money for this lot, given the
documentation he has provided.

I will not make the reserve price public, but believe me I was shocked.

This could backfire on the seller, then, if the only reason for the auction
is to get a value for insurance purposes.  If people know there's no way
they'll ever match the reserve, they won't bid on it.  Since it's not honest
to get a valuation of your collection this way, I think he's wasting
everyone's time.  There's no way he'd still stick with whatever the maximum
bid was as his collection's value if it's only say six or seven thousand anyway.

In the real world, if the buyer wants a valuation only, then they instruct the auctioneer to that effect, and the auctioneer bids for them. They win, but still pay a buyer's fee. (24 years ago, 7-Feb-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade, lugnet.org.us.gardenslug)
