I don't think it's nonintuitive. I think it makes sense to have the output go to the same directory as the input. In this part I have hard-coded the torso in white so the part colour controls the coloured detail on the torso. This allows the same part to be used for the Black/Blue/Red/Yellow versions. The other thing I played around with was attaching a 1x16 beam directly onto the older faster spinning technic motors. I was checking to see if NQC already does have an option to spit bytecodes to stdout (-L would work, if rcxcomm would understand the format) and I came across something that seems nonintuitive to me. Just the other day a friend and I had a go at building a lego shooter. The aim was to fire 2x2 bricks. After a couple of designs, the most successful turned out to be a slot shooter. Ah, yes, using two wheels on each side to accelerate the balls will provide better traction. I was envisioning the wheel as a direct tangent to the sphere ... All of the IR sensors I've seen use a pulsed IR emitter so that the detector can distinguish between the emitted IR and ambient (e.g. sunlight). Exactly, Hot wheels uses the idea as well as those machines that shoot tennis or baseballs for practice. The baseball ones use a boat trailler wheel driven by an electric motor. Here's a progress report: I used all 4 of the "big" wheels (tires and hubs) that come with the RIS, dual-mounted (like the rear wheels on a tractor-trailer) and opposite each other. The gap (...) I find the biggest problem is the casing. It consists of a small box and two things on the outside, with tiny clips. It's these clips that always brake so I simply glue them. I have used the old style motor to shoot 3/8 inch wooden balls with a range of 2-3 feet. Used about a 2 inch shaft attached directly to the motor to bat the balls. Actually, a magnet and reed switch would be more reliable than a touch sensor. Or maybe use an optical sensor. All the commercial ball shooters that I have seen use either a pair of spinning wheels, or a launching tube with a blast of air. I believe the air blast works better with lighter balls.
