Hey all, it seems lugnet.castle has been kinda quiet lately, and since I don't
have anything new to post, I thought it might be fun to do a little survey
kinda thing.  Just reply to this message and fill in the answers with your own.

What is your name?
=Leonard "Crackhead Lenny" Hoffman

How old are you?
=I'm 23 going on 24!

What does real life mean for you?
=I'm a Library Technical Assistant at Dirac Science Library at FSU, currently
trying to get teacher certification to be a High School History teacher.  I've
got a wife, Tonia, and we're trying to produce another, altho smaller, Hoffman.

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?
=Yep, Sun Kian, seen here:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=384930 in front of an empty
shot. and here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=77456 showing
off his custom made "Hack-sword" (which is a cross between an axe and a sword).

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?
=Caerany.  As you may know 'caer' is keltic for 'castle or fort'. In my world,
each clan was identified by its fortifications, and somehow the name lept to
refering to the people themselves, hence the Caeric People, and their
country-name, Caerany.

here's my lugnet ftx site: http://www.lugnet.com/~1168/caerany/ and there's
also some stuff on my webbie http://www.ozbricks.net/glencaer

Favorite Castle set?
=Easy! 3739, the Blacksmith Shop.  I've been a big fan of Dan Siskind's stuff,
and could never afford his sets (LTA doesn't pay that well), so I was super
thrilled at a LEGO version of the Shop.  Now I own four copies, which has
greatly increased my Lego castle building power!

Favorite Personal MOC?
=Of my own? Well, my manor house,
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=39964 is my fav so far.  The
perfect example of how real life inspiration (it is based off a real manor
house) leads to an excellent build to an excellent creation.

Favorite Other MOC?
=how can I pick just one?  Anthony's Tel'Karak is a picture perfect example of
the greatness of Lego castle building and neurosis. Almost every day I see
something that really makes me go 'how, i never thought of that!' but i'd have
to say a personal favorite is Onishi Shinji's bakery:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=37675 . i'd easily site it as
the LEGO inspiration that eventually lead to my Manor House.

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?
=I always loved building villages, and i've got one currently on schedule.  but
something I've wanted to do for a while, and just haven't taken the time, is to
do LEGO version of Zelda villages.  Like Karakiko from Ocarina of Time or
Windfall Island from Windwaker.  I think such a project would be really popular
and be a lot of fun to do. but, no bricks, no space, no time. alas.

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?
=I'm a fine of classic castle, meaning black falcons v. lions v. battleaxe
people.  I'd like to see more factions along that line.  Altho I like the more
detailed torsos in KK, the character faces take away from the interchangability
that I love about classic castle.  Also, there is a real polarization with
Lions=good and Bulls=evil in KK, whereas classic castle doesn't have such a
clear distinction, blk falcons and lions are just to different competing
groups.  What if there were four different groups? each with their own castle
and supporting structures, etc.  Sounds like great fun to me.

Also, I like civilian castle creation over purely war-related items.

=====
well that's all. hopefully this will be fun and generate some cool discussion
peace

Sounds like fun...

What is your name?

John Henderson, aka Hendo, Galactic Mediator, Pharaoh of ShipConia, Uniter
of the Two Systems, and All Around Cool Guy

How old are you?

30

What does real life mean for you?

This is a deep question, and I don't think I have the time or space to
answer it fully here.  Unless you are asking this in the sense of "what do
you do in real life?" in which case my answer is that I work as an Inventory
Analyst for a candle manufacturer, have a wonderful girlfriend, and enjoy
gaming, clubbing, hiking, drumming, and driving my MR2.

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?

Been thinking about this, but haven't made one yet due in part to my poor
photography options.

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?

Valyance is the name of the world.  The nations that are involved in the
major stories include Billundia, Lortar, Formia and Darknia.  Generally, the
"good guys" are Billundian and many of the "bad guys" are Darknian.  But I
have a strange fondness for the villians I have developed, and thus as the
stories progress it often turns out that the Darknians are not all bad and
the Billundians are not all good.

Favorite Castle set?

Very tough choice.  I loved pretty much every TLC Castle set through until
after the Black Monarch era.  If I had to choose one, I would say that I
have a lot of nostalgia for the early catapult...
http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6030

Favorite Personal MOC?

For Castle?  I really loved the first Keep of Bannenware (image not
currently available) that had the shaped turret.  It sat on display on my
shelf for a few years before I could get the nerve to change it.  For other
themes, I really like how I brought Castle to challenge the depths of Space
with the Wolfpack 2089's spaceship, Castle's Revenge...
http://www.valyance.com/starship/myships/castles_revenge.htm

Favorite Other MOC?
There are so many to chose from.  And I like so many for different reasons.
For Castle, I would have to say I have been most inspired by Anthony Sava's
work...
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=savatheaggie
Although really, I cannot say that any single builder or MOC is my favorite
over all others.

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?

For Castle, I wish I had more green, blue, and brown to build landscapes
underneath my displays.  Currently, I use party-store table cloths (plastic,
available in various colors including a green similar to Lego Green, about 3
USD each).  It would be neat to have the terrain actually be brick.

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?

Bring it back.  I like the non-fantasy sets such as those from 1984-1990ish.
It would be neat if they had a mini-fig set (similar to the one S@H has for
Town) that included 30+ figs and ranged from BF, Crusaders, Forestmen, and
Peasants.  As I see it, there are five sub-theme-types withing Castle:
Military/Nobility, Agrarian, Bourgeoisie, Rogue Society, and Fantasy
Characters.  TLC proved during the 1980's that they could do
Military/Nobility (Crusaders, BF, etc.) and they have done Rogue Society
(Forestment, Wolfpack) and Fantasy Characters (Fright Knights, Dragon
Masters).  Recent MOC villages, the MM, Legends, and Siskand's set are nice
examples of the Bourgeoisie.  But except for the odd horse cart set, I
really have not seen much in the way of Agrarian.  When you consider that
historically the majority of Medieval Europeans lived in rural villages, it
would be nice to have more peasants and farmers to have as a backdrop to the
other, more story-providing sub-themes.

well that's all. hopefully this will be fun and generate some cool discussion

Hope so.  :)

Anything to kill the time ;)

What is your name?
Anthony "The Lego Bandito" Sava

How old are you?
24 in the middle of July

What does real life mean for you?
I'm a bum living off my parents since last May trying to find employment.  My
fiancee' is going to college two hours away.  On a good note, I just got her
interested in getting LEGO of her own to play with, Belville castle to be
precise.

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?
I've had many sig figs in the past.  Number one of which I suppose would be
King Ulmerad:
http://www.ozbricks.com/ikros/Ulmerad2.jpg
Next I guess would be Sir Garalt:
http://www.ozbricks.com/ikros/hand18.jpg
And of course Prince Garadaine for the Chaos Skies saga:
http://www.ozbricks.net/ikros/ChaosGaradaineA.jpg
All of which can be found on my two websites.

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?
Well, my fantasy continent is called Kahlan.  I really haven't thought up a
name for the planet/world my story takes place in.  My fantasy country of
choice is named Ikros.

http://www.ozbricks.com/ikros
http://www.ozbricks.net/ikros/chaos.html

Favorite Castle set?
I'd have to agree that Dan's Blacksmith Shop is a great set, definately one of
the top in my book.  But the castle set that will always hold a little piece of
my heart is 6085 The Black Monarch's Castle.

Favorite Personal MOC?
My current project I'm working on could very well become my favorite MOC I've
made, but I won't be able to say for sure until it's finished.  It's too bad
the red dragon had to be disassembled to build it.  For right now, though, my
favorite MOC of mine would have to be the Griffon:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=28069
It's posability far exceeds anything I've been able to do so far (though the
Juvenile Dragon is probably an equal, mainly because the two are built very
similarly).

Favorite Other MOC?
That one is an easy one.  Bar none, my favorite MOC has been and always will be
Ed Boxer's Castle.  It was what started me on the path of becoming an AFOL in
the first place.
http://www.geocities.com/WestHollywood/9172/castle.html

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?
Ikros' Capital. If it was built to scale, I have guestimated it being over 10
feet long, 10 feet wide and over 6 feet tall.

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?
I'm in full agreement with Lenny on this one.  Bring back the Crusader style
castle line.  Black Falcons, all that jazz.

Or maybe even better yet.  Maybe they could do something like the My Own Train
thing.  Come up with a design for a castle and a few smaller sets, with a set
number of minifigs and accessories.  Then come up with say, four or so color
schemes to match up with four different factions.  Then, you could buy any of
the sets in one of four colors, each color coming with it's own faction
minifigs, shields, horse bardings and banners.

For example, each set would have a base color of Light Grey.  Then, say if you
wanted to buy your sets for the Black Falcons, your sets would have blue trim,
and come with Black Falcon shields, minifigs and other accessories.  If you
bought your sets for the Griffon or Crossed Axes, your sets would have a red
trim and so forth.  Perhaps bring back the Forestmen with a green or brown
trim, and their elk shields and things?  And then maybe bring back the Black
Monarch's men with their dragon shields and have their trim color be black or
something.

And that's all I have to say about that.

What is your name?
DaveE

How old are you?
26

What does real life mean for you?
Computer programming, and generally being a nerd.

Favorite Castle set?
Tough call. Possibilities:
- 6080 King's Castle
- 6067 Guarded Inn
- 6062 Battering Ram
- 6086 Black Knight's Castle

Favorite Personal MOC?
Favorite *castle* MOC I assume :)
I guess it'd have to be my village, though I have to admit I'm quite fond of
my recent rock golems.

Favorite Other MOC?
Hmm... Maybe Eric Brok's Frost Castle...

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?
A truer-to-life minifig scale castle :)

One with 10-15 foot thick outer walls, cuz honestly, who built castle walls
that were 1 or 2 feet thick? And very few windows (so fewer if any actual
castle wall pieces). And built on a realistic landscape like a craggy rock
outcropping, but not made from 95% BURPs. Something that takes up 6 or more
48x48 baseplates at the base. Something that's got a dungeon "dug in"
underground. And it's gotta look uber-cool :)

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?

Revertion to classic style, really:

- More complex design (not just columns holding up a roof a la Harry Potter
or Leo's Castle).

- Continue subthemes beyond the release year. One of Lego's selling points
is reusability, but today's castle sets are hardly comparable to those in
days past. Compare to Playmobil's compatibility.

- Include more 'day-in-the-life' buildings

- Go back to openable, expandable castles. Love the ability to combine 2 or
more castles together to make a wicked cool castle.

- More 'generic' characters. Storylines to sell the product are nice, but
you need filler characters as well.

- Don't depend as much on raised baseplates for design. Perhaps some
smaller, more generic, raised baseplate landscapse would be cool, like a
16x16 "little hill" or boulder. CRAPP's aren't organic enough to be easily
reusable.

- How about a "realistic" castle, aka "model of castle X"? Then you've got
the "we're teaching real history!" edge. Allow for historical blurbs along
with the set; IE "Castle X was built in xxxx by lord so-and-so. It's located
in some country and took a bunch of years to build! Here's some other random
historical fact that's interesting."

- Cool decorative pieces, maybe? IE I love the lion's head moulds (tho would
be nice in some other colors), how about some gargoyles, decorative
etchings, etc. (Some of this already exists, obviously, but I'll put in my
$.02 and say "more!")

What is your name?

Bruce

How old are you?

34

What does real life mean for you?

I teach chemistry.

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?

I suppose if anything you'd have to go with the story teller from my site:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=287230
If you look around my site you'll reallize that he's also a chemistry professor:
http://www.ozbricks.net/bricktales/lab/newlab/newlab002.html

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?
I can't really call it "my" world, but Tolkien's Middle Earth.
http://www.ozbricks.net/bricktales/lotr/lotrmain.html

Favorite Castle set?
I'd probably go with the Blacksmith Shop, but I really like Wolfpack and
Forestmen, so maybe Wolfpack Renegades or Forestmen's Crossing.

Favorite Personal MOC?
I'd probably go with one of these two scenes from my Tolkien story:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=281243
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=281235
I was especially happy with the lighting effects on those.

Favorite Other MOC?
Impossible to say.  In Castle I might go with Jon Furman, for both his great
Tolkien creations and also his more recent town, but what about Takeshi Itou,
or all of the other great things posted here and elsewhere.

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?
Actually, I'd like to get into some other areas, like sculpture or trains, but
can't really invest the bricks, time, and apartment space for these.
Within Castle, I suppose a walled town.

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?
Well, let me start with what I don't like - castle wall pieces.  I would much
rather see more things built of real bricks, like the Blacksmith Shop.  Also
I'd like to see more civilian sets.  Jon Furman's village would be a great
series of sets in a MOC line.
I'd also like to see other cultures--Vikings, Romans, Greeks, etc.  Perhaps
these aren't strictly "Castle", but then the Ninja theme was a sub-theme of
Castle.  Perhaps some of these could be subthemes in the Adventurer's line,
like we've gotten Egypt, India, Inca/Maya/Aztec, and now a Chinese palace in
that line.
Also, fewer themes.  I'm obviously a big Tolkien guy, but I'd never want to see
a Lord of the Rings theme.  The Harry Potter theme is fun, but I'd rather see
TLC create their own castles, allowing for greater imagination in the builders
to make their own story lines.

Sirob, check it out here: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/oranzinr/

Favorite Castle set?
6076 thats right dark dragon's den.  I though and still do that the dragon
masters were the coolest theme

Favorite Personal MOC?
Good question.  Well of course my favorite are long destroyed back in my
childhood but of the ones i still have records of probably
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/oranzinr/smiles.html
sadly its a space moc so my favorite castle one is
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/oranzinr/shrine.html

Favorite Other MOC? • Any of Daniel Shiu and Andrew Lipson's escher renditions very very cool

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?
The forbidden city in china.  Chinese have such beautiful architecture that
i'd like to give it a royal try

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?
No more castle legend sets.  Why? That should be the quality of all the
castle sets, dont bring back what was good, make some more new stuff that
quality.  I think TLG is starting to bounce back in quality and have been
suprisengly satisfied with the tibet orient expedition and am itching to get
the Dragon Fortress as soon as i find 90 extra dollars.

What is your name?
Josh Wedin

How old are you?
29 years, 1 month, 14 days, 4 hours, 17 minutes, and 25 seconds right...now!

What does real life mean for you?
Hmmm...real life...the main thing I do is foster care.  I am a treatment
foster parent, which means that my wife and I have special training to
enable us to take in high needs children and teenagers.  I also own a
custodial business and live on a 73 acre farm, which could be a full time
job all by itself!

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?
I have a fig named Bruce Dragonbane that is sort of me, for lack of anyone
else.  He is on my homepage at MOCPages:
http://www.mocpages.com/home.php/140?r=274440185

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?
I have been kicking around several names and haven't decided on one yet.
Everything I come up with sounds dumb or it sounds like I ripped it off of
Tolkien.  You can call it Minifigia, but I don't. :)

Favorite Castle set?
Wow, there are so many.  I think I have to say 6080 King's Castle.  It was
the first lego castle I ever saw in real life.  My friend got right when it
came out.  I was in love!  I recently got it off of Ebay, so now I am cool!

Favorite Personal MOC?
Well, it isn't technically a castle MOC, but my Sea Monster is my favorite:
http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/368?r=664670881

Favorite Other MOC?
That is easy.  I really like Takeshi Itou's stuff.  My favorite of his is
Mist Lake Castle: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=24328

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?
A topographically correct minifig scale version of my farm.  That is a lot
of green brick!

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?
Bring it back (I don't count Harry Potter).  I agree that the legend series
should stop.  It is cool to be able to get some of the old sets, but I liked
it better when rare sets and pieces were rare.  Build something new and
original.  The Adventurers castle stuff is good.  More of that kind of
thinking.  But I am tired of getting all of my castle pieces from other themes.

Thanks, Lenny, good job!

Ok now we're talkin!  It has been quite dead around here lately, I would say
schools out and people are building, that's my excuse anyways.  Let's get to it!

What is your name?
Erick Jensen  EazyE or just e.  Sometime I go by Evil Genius, cuz I can be a
rotten bastard when I try to be  :)

How old are you?
25

What does real life mean for you?
I haven't decided.  I think without getting all philisophical or matrix-y on
you all, it's just getting through the world as best as you can.

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?
I do.

Oh I spose I should elaborate.  I do have a fig of myself, with my red pants
and my red goatee, I'm blonde, but I have a red beard, go figure, I think it
looks cool.  I also have my fav fig, that would be Cecil.  You'll all see
who he is soon enough.  I really am pluggin away on my website.  Honest!!

Cecil is the one in blue in the front, with the big polearm.  Currently
that's the best pic.
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/eMegatron/Teasers/warriors_still_standing_firm.jpg

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?
That would the nation of Eta Carina.  The captial is the Castle Cruitnay,
but the hot-spot town is Meridia.

Favorite Castle set?
Hmmm, tough choice, currently I'm loving the Black Falcon's Fort, I never
had it as a child but the legend version is killer!  It's small but so well
built!  I love it.  An old fav would be the Wolfpack Tower, just cuz of the
pack.

Favorite Personal MOC?
My current castle, the Warduke Mansion is pretty cool.  But I really like my
airship, I think it looks so perfect.  I might not ever trash it.  I really
look forward to finishing the Mansion pics so I can build something new.  I
have such ideas!

Favorite Other MOC?
Here's a tough one.  Ever since I got the net many years ago I've been
saving pics that I inspire me, intresting building techniques or designs, or
just look cool.  The down side is that I know nothing about where I got them
or who made them.  But here goes.  Sava's Dragons are amazing.  Ed Boxer's
castle really sets the bar for structures.  Brickmania.com has the Taverns
and a fantastic cathedral.  Then there are the day-in-the-life creations of
Onishi Shinji.  So many to chose from.  If I had to pick, it would be Ed
Boxer's castle.

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?
A village.  That would be so satisfying.  A massive 'Boxer' castle would be
fun too.  With a full interior and all.  I also think some sort of mountain
castle would look fantastic, but I can't afford to use all my
black,gray,dk-gray on just 'rocks'.  There'd be none left for the castle.  A
fleet of airships would make me drool though.

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?
Like somebody else said, DO SOMETHING WITH IT.  No more Leo vs Bulls, no
more Potter buildings, do some old-school castle with it.  They put out the
Black Falcon's Fort and Guarded Inn, so the molds for the old weapons and
armor and figs is fresh!  Go back to the roots and do some 80's castles.  I
wouldn't be upset at all if they were out of ideas and stole ours, just give
a little credit.  You can steal my designs, I don't even want that much
money, just being able to buy quality sets with decent peices at a decent
price would be reward enough.  But you have to put, "Built by SleazyE" on
the box.

Hello!

What is your name?
Johannes 'Jojo' Koehler

How old are you?
I'm nearer to my 50th birthday than to the day of my birth. But not much.

What does real life mean for you?
Don't have a real life.

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?
Not very original: http://www.chutspe.de/adler.gif

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?
'My Life'

Favorite Castle set?
6067
6074
(They have been my favourites already before they were re-released. LEGO met
my taste exactly.)

Favorite Personal MOC?
My favourite MOC is not a castle or any castle-related building but this
contractor's shed: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=129280

Favorite Other MOC?
There are many MOCs of others that I really like. It's not easy to highlight
a specific MOC. As for Castle maybe I like the work of Jon Furman, Takeshi
Itou and Denis Pouchain the best. But of course there are thousands of MOCs
that are immediatelly appealing to me at first glance.

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?
Someday I will build Grimmelshausen's novel "Simplicissimus". (Well, I doubt
that you know of this German baroque novel... :-)

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?
Considering what they have done to Castle when they released the Knights'
Kingdom line I'm almost glad that LEGO dropped Castle. They do not create
new sets anymore. All they do is revitalizing their old Legends or lettng
fans create new (indeed very good!) sets. They don't have the capability
anymore to make new *good* castle sets themselves.

=I'm a fine of classic castle, meaning black falcons v. lions
So am I.

Also, there is a real polarization with
Lions=good and Bulls=evil in KK, whereas classic castle doesn't have such a
clear distinction, blk falcons and lions are just to different competing
groups.
Indeed. This clear distinction paralyses the fantasy. Not our fantasy but
their main clientele's, the children's, fantasy. We then were able to chose
our favourite faction by ourselves (Black Falcons or Lions or Forest
Men...). These days children almost are commited to hate the evil bulls and
to like the good King Leo. They don't have a choice anymore.

Also, I like civilian castle creation over purely war-related items.
Yep.

Ok ...

What is your name?

Pawel Nazarewicz

How old are you?

23

What does real life mean for you?

Grad student at UGA.

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?

It used to be Verneer [1], but there is going to be a change very soon.  I
will upload pictures when I take them.

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?

Don't really have one.

Favorite Castle set?

I'm a big fan of the Black Falcon Fortress ... and it's out right now so go
snatch some :)

Favorite Personal MOC?

The expanded Blut'Ader.  Pictures when I'm done.

Favorite Other MOC?

Ok.  These MOC had a huge impact on my own building.  First, there was Dan
Jezek's Skull Kragg Keep.  Pictures of it are nowhere to be found I don't
think ...

Then there was Michael Ulring's castle - it was so alive and so big.  I
managed to save a few of those pictures.  Here is one:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=38755

Then, I really loved Dave Eaton's village.  This is one area that Lego
hasn't done anything with.  All their medieval sets center around keeps.  I
guess keeps sell better than peasant houses :)

Recently, Takeshi Itou's stuff has really caught my eye.  The level of
detail is just amazing:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=hachi

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?

Huge castle with 90% of it inside a huge mountain.  You open the mountain up
and it's all detailed inside.

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?

A village theme would be nice.  Windmill, watermill, village houses, farm
animals?

I'm 26

What does real life mean for you?
Been searching for that answer too mach time, so if everyone will found out
please tell me.

But inspite of that, for now I'm studying my M.Sc in Electronics, while
sneaking to History courses at the same time. My B.Sc is also in Electronics
and Education. I'm working as a Programmer for Microcontrollers.

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?

Every mini-fig in my collection has it's own place in my heart but since I
already have a photo of that one then:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=26300

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?
The land with no name.

Favorite Castle set?
Not easy at all. From my past it would have to be my first castle which was
the reason why I started with castles 6080 - The King's Castle.
After my dark ages it would be 6090 - The Royal Knight's Castle.

The 6067 - the Guarded Inn will also have a special place in my heart forever.
As for the Blacksmith of Daniel, I'll give you that, it's the most detailed
set LEGO ever produced. (And I guess every LEGO Castle ever made)

Favorite Personal MOC?
Not castle but it would have to be my Maya's piramids (only made by LDraw
due to lack of bricks)

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=29174

Favorite Other MOC?
I guess everything I ever saw by you guys made for castle, even the simplest
thing as long as it castle. Many of you mentioned a lot of great stuff by
others, I'm not disagreeing with anyone, just wanted to add one more name to
that great list: Johannes Koehler

http://www.1000steine.de/iscc/iscc2/entries/005/index.pl?search=1

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Jojo/Eigenbauten/church/000martinluther.jpg
http://www.chutspe.de/cm/cm.html

just great stuff!!!

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?
The entire Akropolis in Greece and the entire Maya's cities.

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?
Well first of all, hire me. But beside that, I really don't agree with the
idea stop the LEGEND line (I wanted that LEGO will do it many many years ago).
However it's not really the reason why LEGO don't produce other new LEGO
castles. I think it's their compensation to us because of the HP line. I
really want to see some great old castles sets again, but I really think
it's about time that LEGO will produce a new castle line, with new helmets,
new weapons, I want also a lot of the old classic walls. Stop producing alot
of bad sets that we would have to pay a small fortune cause the 2 mini-figs
there and not available anywhere else.
Since LEGO trys so hard to reach to kids with the "In Movies Theme
Concpets", I don't understand why they didn't havn't wrapped castles with
LotR. A great set of like 30 castle minifigs, shileds, flags and saddles
(those with the drawings) of all times would be great.

Civilian castle creation - I'm for it as well. Maybe the MM will give them
some idea's for that.
And as other said, steal idea's from us. They can easily made 'LEGO MOC
Castle's theme'.

That's about wraps it up

What is your name?

Benjamin Medinets

How old are you?

28 going on 29.

What does real life mean for you?

Right now I'm single, working part-time as a soldier in the US Army National
Guard (in Buffalo) and full time working as a security guard working at
various sites (in St. Catharines).

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?

Yes.  Benny Brave

or

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=13528

I don't really have a good picture of him showing any of his abilities yet,
but eventually I might feel like putting something together.

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?

The Imperial City of Brunswick:

http://www.lugnet.com/~817/legoa

but my ftx can be interesting also:

http://www.lugnet.com/~817

Favorite Castle set?

Also the 3739, the Blacksmith Shop.

It's relatively "small" for 600 pieces.  It's very detailed.  I like some of
the rarer pieces included, but I like even more the ample common pieces that
can be used else where.  I currently own 2 of them, and have still yet to
build the shop (had to use pieces elsewhere.... :s

Favorite Personal MOC?

Lion's Den Castle (keep).

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=12081

Other Moc's can be seen here:

http://www.lugnet.com/~817/mocpage

Favorite Other MOC?

how can I pick just one?  There's too many, and it would not do justice to
name a particular favorite. If I absolutely had to pick one, I'd have to say
Jim Fould's Temple that I seen last year at Brickfest.  The amount of detail
on it was amazing.

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?

I would really love to build my Imperial Palace, the Royal Townhouses, and/or
finish my Lion's Den castle so that it is bigger than just a keep.

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?

I would like to see a modular castle come out.  I think I seen some ideas on
it earlier this year.  I would like to see what TLC could come up with.
It would have to be on a detail level as close to as the Blacksmith Shop as
possible.  Definitely would have to get rid of the juniorized castle base
(Leo's Castle/2003 Ninja Palace) etc.

Thanks,

ben

Just a suggestion--maybe it would be interesting if we gave feedback to

Just for my thoughts on Anthony's work, while the Dragons are what stand out
the most, I would also add the Tower of Olyian:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=5114
Those colored spires are what really make this feel wizard-y to me.
I also really like the entrance to the Dragon Temple:

Those katanas as fangs are very clever.  This has a great evil look.

I'd go with Johannes' cathedral:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=27731
The decision to to a small slice of the cathedral in great detail was a really
good one.  I really love the long vertical lines of this.  In the great
cathedrals of Europe one thing that really strikes you is the vast sweep of the
ceiling, tall columns, etc.  This model captures that well.  Oh, I also really
like the Canterbury Murder variation you did:

Also, the mill is an outstanding creation:

gory medieval type stuff.

How old are you? • 26 years

What does real life mean for you?
Cooking and cleaning, job searching.  Spent three years in a horrible job
putting my wife through grad school.  Now, we moved from Yonkers, NY (where
there are jobs) to Small Town Indiana so she could teach at a college, and
where there are no jobs for me.  So I'm a rare house-husband.

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?
Several, and maybe if I even get a digital camera, I'll let you all see
them.  I have dreams of a dwarf and automatron / golem army...

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?
Hamare.  More of an island, out of the way of the big important kingdoms,
but still wrought with political intreige and a healty dose of good vs.
evil.  Of course, that was a human island, and I'm not sure how my
ever-growing armies of dwarves, elves, and orcs are going to fit in.

Favorite Castle set?
I'm a fan of the Blacksmith Shop, but I think BFF is my favorite.  That was
the only castle I had as a kid, and it was great to open that on Christmas
morning this year.

Favorite Personal MOC?
My elephant.  I love the simple, 2x2-bricks-for-legs elephant I made.  He's
sitting on the mantle next to the wedding pictures.

Favorite Other MOC?
I see dozens every week on Brikshelf.  Giant castles that I just don't have
the brick to make right now.

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?
A huge castle with a gate house and several towers and keeps.  I look at
anything Bob Carney does and I drool.

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?
Several things.  More brick-based models, opposed to KK type sets, with
dozens of specialty peices and a handful of actual bricks.  I love the idea
of the old factions coming back, along with a few new ones.  Being a fantasy
fan, I'd like to see Lego make a fantasy line with some new dragons and
elves and whatnot.  I know that has copyright infringment stamped all over
it, but a guy can dream.

I'm a college professor, I teach computer graphics and multimedia production.
That's why there's so much Flash stuff on my website, I use it for
demonstration in my classes.

I also love medieval history, I minored in it as an undergrad and even started
to learn Anglo-Saxon at one point.

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?
Nope. But my favorite minifig is the Dragon Master knight (with the dragon
crested helmet) and if I had a sig Fig it would one of them.

Favorite Castle set?
Black Knight's Castle - 6086. In my opinion, the last "good" castle LEGO made.

Favorite Personal MOC?
Whatever I'm working on at the moment is always my favorite, right now it's a
smith's forge. I think my Wizard's Tower is good though.

http://swroble.home.att.net/Projects/Things/Wizard/Wizard.html

Favorite Other MOC?
I agree with Lenny "How can I pick just one?" It seems like I see something
every day or so that makes me say "Wow. What a great idea!" There are some that
stand out, but this list is by no means complete.

Robert Carney's work inspired me a lot when I was just getting started.
http://www.carneycastle.com/

Kevin Hall's Androstavia site inspired me to make my own website.
http://www.ozbricks.com/andrastavia/

Johannes Koehler's Falckenstein inspired me to start thinking BIGGER.
http://www.chutspe.de/steinwerk/falckenstein/

James Stacy's Castle With Keep is pretty cool.
http://www.minifig.co.uk/models/castle3.htm

And Jeremiah VanderMark's Bowman Field's Cottage is pretty cool too.
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=31022

There are a lot more, but I have to finish this post.

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?
I would like to be able to build a castle AND a town at the same time.

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?
I think the 80's had the best castles. A lot of them were modular and you could
connect the different sets to make bigger castles. I'm glad TLC is re-releasing
some of them as LEGO Legends, it would be great if they continued that and
re-released them all.

AND go back to making castles with a little more historical accuracy. For
instance, they could make castles that actually HAVE WALLS IN THEM! (Sorry, I
had to get that off my chest.)

AND TLC should stop the whole "good guy, bad guy" thing and let us decide who
is who.

Well, I'd have to first off apologize for the
lack of posting lately...this weekend equated to
a major onset of task saturation, which is normal
considering the time of the year.

What is your name?

M.A Hein

How old are you?

18 (not sure If I'm the youngest at .castle...probably
not.)

What does real life mean for you?

Most of the time, this means staying off lugnet
and getting back to my duties, such as writing
improving on my illustrative skills and reading.
I'm currently a student, although I'm soon to
graduate and possibly join the USAF for college
opportunities...(this means far less posting on my
part.)

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?

Rezka Masahiro S. Blake (D Dracon from Anachronistic Skies)

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=335611

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?

There are actually two:

After the great war, Dash's future.
Albatross, a provincial estimated to be about 220 kilometers
in length which lies situated on an archipelago.

Before the great war, Dash's reality.
Lucaria, an antiseptic society governed by an encroaching
government. Its capital 'the floating city' is in itself
a genuine feat of engineering with its own atmosphere.

http://www.lugnet.com/~1112/Fantasy/

Favorite Castle set?

Black Falcon's Fortress, although I don't own
any copies...

Favorite Personal MOC?

Akael Me'Han...genteel as always.

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=34189

Favorite Other MOC?

As I may have said earlier, I rarely, if ever, collect
inspiration from outside sources, as my philohophy is
to remain as self-generative as possible. Occasionally,
I'll use sources as reference, but that's pretty much
rare and sporadic.

In the past true visionaries had little to work with
other than their dreams and ideas, today we have such a
great influx of information, which has a great effect
on originality. However, I would have to say the
Shah-Ta-Ree temple.

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?

There's practically hundreds of projects I'd want
to do, but they'll never get completed as in doing
so would place an extensive financial strain on
myself.

Building The entire province of Albatross (Faiye,
LaGuardia, Allercus, Lucaria) out of bricks would
make for an intersting endeavor, but it's very unlikely.

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?

I would like to see several releases of 'component packages'
which basically constitute out of basic bricks, windows,
arches, lattices, curved pieces, reliefs, sloped elements
and the like as that would accelerate my productivity
to unfathomed levels.

Also, I like civilian castle creation over purely war-related items.

Maybe a spanish or italian influenced theme would
illuminate on tbis...

I thought they all consisted of pre-shaped ground, trap-doors, and ghosts.

Agreed.  I think Lego® inspires a lot of creativity building-wise, but the
trend to promote sets through predesigned storylines restricts the true
freedom of creativity in play and storytelling.  Those of us who collected
in the 1980's have been known to develop entire worlds and stories (as
indicated by one of the other questions on this quiz).  It is nice to see
how each of us interpreted the BF or Crusaders or whoever differently in our
stories.  If we all started with preset good and bad, we all would have
ended up with similar stories.  I prefer it when it is more open to variety.
(Limitless Possibilities, the old marketing phrase, was not just about
building.)

Any true scholar can testify that at one time, castles did in fact have walls.
They were 5 studs wide and 5 bricks high and had a window cut in them. They
were either black or grey and some of them had rocks painted on them.

Before that, they were made out of plain bricks, and were yellow for some
reason.

There is even evidence that some black walls had dragon's painted on them
and some possibly had pillars painted on them as well.  There is some
controversy over this however.  The early yellow walls were actually early
grey walls that were left out in the sun too long and faded.  They were left
out in the sun because it takes forever to build something out of actual
bricks.  Some historians believe that this is the reason that the larger
grey walls were used in later castles.

I'm not sure if thats what the question means but..... Oh well school, work,
drama and lurking about lugnet.

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?
I haven't decided which minifig would work the best but when I decide (and
get my scanner figured out) I'll post it.

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?
My story is set on earth in a few different countries although I've only
named one of them. That one being Boaristad.

Favorite Castle set?
2586 The one that comes with the lego chess CD. A cheap little set with some
cool pieces.

Favorite Personal MOC? • I don’t know. See sig fig answer.

Favorite Other MOC?
I've seen a lot of great mocs in all this time I’ve been lurking and it
would take way to long to mention all of them. All I can say is keep up the
good work.

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?
The Dark Stone Castle in Boaristad. As you might guess from the name it's
supposed to be made almost completely out of Dk gray bricks. Someday someday.

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?
I think it would be cool if TLC did some Castle themed "Designer Sets".
There would be The Dragon Builder Set, with special fabric pieces for the
wings. The Forestmen Builder Set, which would give kids an endless amount of
tree house designs. And of course The Castle Builder Set, buy 1 to make a
small castle 2 to make a larger one and so on.

Hello all,

What is your name? • Andrew P. Saada

How old are you? • 20

What does real life mean for you?
What Hendo said.  And with that said, I'm in the transition between being a
sophomore and junior in undergrad, currently at Monmouth U.  I took a leave
of abscence from Wash U in St. Louis this semester to explore other options
and be closer to home (NJ).  I was/am studying architecture and graphic design.

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)? • Nope.  Haven't made one I really liked.

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?
Not sure if this is a definite but Salogel.  I actually started writing the
story to this and a large battle that I plan on illustrating (at least
partially) this weekend.  Maybe I'll post the intro??

Favorite Castle set?
Hmm...6086 Black Knight's Castle...really think this was the best "castle"
LEGO churned out (finally ordered one for my birthday two years ago) but I
have to say that 6066 Camoflauge Outpost is my favorite.
I also wish that I had picked up a bunch more of the Black Knight and
Defense Archer sets!

Favorite Personal MOC?
I have to say my Royal Knights/Crusaders castle.  Most complete and
realistic one I have made.  Except I have not taken pics recently and none
are uploaded at this time.
I have not been the most avid contributor to .Castle but I have been amazed
with everything I've seen and read over the past two years.  I also only
started posting two months ago.

Favorite Other MOC?
I'd say Jon Furman's LOTR series (Golden Hall for buildings) and his
excellent modular village sets.  I saw the debut of Takeshi Itou's stunning
work but missed a bunch of the new stuff...that North Glacier Tower is
uber-cool.

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks? • Landscape village and castle.

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?
BUnch of great ideas mentioned here...to recap:

Also, I like civilian castle creation over purely war-related items. • I'm with ya Lenny.
Hendo:
When you consider that historically the majority of Medieval Europeans lived
in rural villages, it would be nice to have more peasants and farmers to
have as a backdrop to the other, more story-providing sub-themes.
DaveE:
- More complex design (not just columns holding up a roof a la Harry Potter
or Leo's Castle).
- Continue subthemes beyond the release year. One of Lego's selling points
is reusability, but today's castle sets are hardly comparable to those in
days past. Compare to Playmobil's compatibility.
- Include more 'day-in-the-life' buildings
- Go back to openable, expandable castles. Love the ability to combine 2 or
more castles together to make a wicked cool castle.
Bruce: I'd also like to see other cultures--Vikings, Romans, Greeks, etc.
Anthony Sava's idea: Or maybe even better yet.  Maybe they could do
something like the My Own Train thing.
Micah: The Forestmen Builder Set, which would give kids an endless amount of
tree house designs.

I'd buy a bunch of those Forestmen Builder Sets!  I'd also like to see some
village sets along the lines of medieval Scots.

-Andrew

Details like stairs and interior access have been among the challenges that
I've tried to meet when building something. I like the sense that something
is "realistic", in as much as you can move characters around as if they were
walking themselves.

I still fall way short on interior detailing (ie furniture, fixtures, etc.)
but I take inspiration from what others have created.

Thanks for noticing the details that I have managed to include. I like that
my 7yr old daughter can play with my creations. Minifigs aren't quite
Barbie's but she's able to create her own playworld and stories. That's fun
to see.

west ideas, It's been a while since I've been back to WW)
What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?
I'd like them to actually make something!  THey haven't really given us anything
new since 2000.  I'd like to see something Roman, or Grecian.  I'd even take
Trojans or Spartans!  Vikings would be cool too!  Or how about some actual
egyptians (not like the mummies in the adv. sets)

This was really kinda Fun!  JOn

Well I've finally gotten around to doing this. Here are my answers

What is your name?
=Steve Bishop

How old are you?
=I'm 24

What does real life mean for you?
=Well this question sounds a little too philosophical to me... but I am as of
two weeks ago, a second year law student.

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?
=Well not exactly my sig fig, but he is the hero of the story I am writing
<<img>>http://www.geocities.com/athosall4_1/Hero1.JPG

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?
=I really don't know just yet. I'm accepting any suggestions anyone might have.
I'm also toying with the idea of making it Atlantis... You can see what I have
so far at www.geocites.com/athosall4_1/story1.html

Favorite Castle set?
=Too hard to say. I love the Kings Mountain Fortress (6081) and the Blacksmith
Shop (6040) is one that I don't have but really want to get.

Favorite Personal MOC?
=I am fond of my courthouse
<link>http://www.geocities.com/athosall4_1/Town1.html, And I also like my
village which I don't have many pictures of except for as backdrops to my story.

Favorite Other MOC?
= Too many, I really like the stories, though I haven't read much of any of
them, I love the pictures.

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?
=I want to build some big castles to use in my stories, but at the moment I
don't want to take apart all the things I have built until I have a lot of time
and space where they will be safe from getting lost.

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?
=I would like to see a move back to the old style castles, like the Black
falcons, and the like, probably just like everyone else. And I would like more
civilian buildings and female figures, in dresses. And less catapults.

=====
Steve

Hi all,

Twan Theeuwen.

How old are you?

I counted thirtythree autumns and then another one.

What does real life mean for you?

That's what friendly people on Internet advise me to get.
Meanwhile I work as a software engineer.

Do you have a sig Fig (post a pic, if you can)?

Nope.

What is the name of your fantasy world/country?

Don't have one.

Favorite Castle set?

6097, Batlords castle.
Obtaining 6 copies in a super sale gave me a kick start into
castle building.

Favorite Personal MOC?

Generally the one I'm working on. But if I have to choose a
finished one probably the Shah's mausoleum:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=8972

Favorite Other MOC?

Something by Bob Carney:
http://12.223.136.182/index.htm

Hard to make a specific choice, but the Wartburg is a good one:
http://12.223.136.182/wartburg/index.htm

What is a project you'd like to do but just don't have the bricks?

This question seems to imply that available bricks is the main
inhibiting
factor to completing my dreamproject, but to me available time but
mostly my skill as a Lego builder appear more important.

Two projects I'd like to do are:
- A Roman circus. I already did this one three times but found none
of them satisfactionary.
- A minifig scale version of the Moscow Kremlin. Despite the negative
association with the former communist regime still a beautiful
fortress
in my opinion.

What would you like TLG to do with the castle line?

Mainly keep up the good work. Seems to me Lego is going great
nowadays, especially compared to the 2000, 2001 period.
HP is a fine theme, even though the sets look more like stages in
a theatre than real life creations. Both the Scorpion Palace and
Dragon Fortress are great. I don't care if Lego doesn't call them
"castle".

For the future I'd love to see more castle-like sets that's not
medieval Europe.
Ancient civilizations: Greek, Roman, Babylonian, Persian etc.
Post medieval Europe: Baroque, Art Deco, Jugendstill etc.

It's not so much that I dislike classic style castle, but continuing
along this line will mean that the same (or similar) props and
pieces get reused over and over again. I like diversity.

Regards, Twan.

Well first of all, hire me. But beside that, I really don't agree with the

Lego is stopping the legend line?! Was this why I was offline?

What does real life mean for you?
Been searching for that answer too mach time, so if everyone will found out
please tell me.

Without putting anything that I would have to cross post to .debate I'll
say that for me Jesus is the answer.
In your search have you tried a Bible?

          God Bless You,

Whoa, everybody calm down.  Yaron was just commenting on what a couple of us
said about wishing that Lego would stop the Legends and make new castle sets.
Don't worry, the Legends line is not about to end. (as far as I know, anyway) :)
